Hi all,

I emailed the Western Australian police force regarding the legality of spud guns in WA. Below is my message and its response.

Message:
Hi, I have a question regarding the legality of pneumatic spud guns.

So basically are they legal in Western Australia? And if not is there a firearms license that will allow me to posses one?

Thank you.

Email to me from firearms branch:
Spud guns fall within the description of a firearm under the Firearms Act 1973 however they can't be licensed.

While it is not illegal to construct a spud gun, possession of one is not in the public interest and the item would be confiscated by police and destroyed.
Notice the bolded text stating that the matter is of high importance

On the spud wiki under WA legaility it states that air is OK, Should this be updated?
Western Australia----> Legal if the projectile is expelled by the use of air it is OK. If any explosion occurred from gas, powder, etc. it is illegal and cannot be fired.
If anyone else on Australia has information regarding the legality of spud guns, a quick post in this thread would be appreciated.

Thanks.

They're saying it's legal, but if they catch you with one, they don't want it to be a threat to the public and will destroy it, no charges or fines laid against you.

It's like if you're caught with a dangerous object, such as a knife, in public, chances are they will take it off you and you will never see it again.

If you're shooting it in your backyard, and the neighbours call the cops, you will loose it unless you cover it up well.

But as long as no one reports it chances are they will never know about it and you will be fine.

I was more replying to this:

It does need to be updated, but not necessarily saying they're illegal, just that they will be taken off you and destroyed.

Thanky ou Crowley that is what i meant, according to my response they are not illegal to make or own :D , but they don't like them so you cant have them.

I will update the Wiki now.

EDIT: Updated wiki, also removed dead link to frequently asked questions page.
