Most influential spudguns

[Velocity]

I think that few of us here simply get a brand new idea in our head when we build a spudgun; though that type of innovation comes once in a while, often times, we are inspired by the works of people before us. The point of this thread is to list the cannons which really inspired you to continue building more things, whether related or not.

My inspiration spudguns:

You're both forgetting one very important one:

Sawn off - Brian the Brain.

In all probability, that's the launcher which most influenced what I've done. There are others, no doubt, but that's the big one for me.

Yeah that was a really nice one inspired me to build a pvc sawn off should of put it on my list.

Most of my earlier pneumatics were inspired by rmich732. We both worked on our piston valves around the same time, (me after him, of course), a year or two ago, and threw around several ideas. His Americannon probably awed me the most.

DYI has provided much of the motivation for me to kick aesthetics and portability out the window and go for broke with his SCTBDC.

Of course, we can't forget DR's Gen. II hybrid in this list. Without that particular advance, I'd still be dicking around trying to fuel my first hybrid. So simple, yet so accurate, and cheap... can't beat it.

And I have to say clide's MacGyver-like skills with PVC and hardware leave with with fresh "thought-designs" whenever I see them.

EDIT: Holy crap Velocity... you're rmich! Took me long enough to figure out that one. I was wondering why 'rmich' hadn't posted in a long time...

my mega cannon was inspired by the swat gun. i built it before i fully understood piston valves, so i just went with a ball valve.

I don't think anybody's going to be influenced by that design anytime soon. Generally, I consider the first "hybrid" the SCH-40 4" one he made with the 5/2" barrel.

When I was making my first QEV gun, Hotwired's Copperhead Prime played a large part in the inspiration, just look at it and you'll see.
When making my first barrel sealing piston, Rag's HEAL was very inspirational, and it was a real help to have all of the pictures of the inside of the valve and whatnot, cheers Rag.
Most of my inspiration comes from the larger PVC cannons on Spudfiles, and the smaller bore copper pneumatics, I just love them!

The inspiration for my SCTBDC came from noname's burst disk mortar. The later, larger versions (1.0 - 1.5) were probably more inspired by the SWAT, and DR's 3" burst disk cannon.

My current project draws inspiration from a lot of sources, but I'm not handing out any hints on that yet. A few members here may have some idea of what it is, but I'll have to trust them not to say anything.

Haha I changed my name a few weeks ago... and it has taken a while for a few of the regulars to realize who I am. A lot of the big posters (posters, not posers ) have only appeared in the last few months, when I have been relatively inactive, and thus don't notice the change.

Back in the spudtech days, our projects definitely inspired each other to build new things. I know that my copper pneumatics were due in a large part to yours that you built back in the day. By this point, we probably have a very similar repertoire of spudgun related creations, due to that friendly and unspoken "rivalry", if you can call it that. For this rivalry, I'm adding "markfh11q" as one inspirational cannon

Admittedly it was misguided using the sprinkler valve, but it was the first implementation of the hybrid firing style in a cannon. The later versions were more refined. That's worth some serious respect. Saying it's not influential is like saying N.A. Otto's first 4 cycle engine wasn't influential, as it used a slide-valve flame ignition system.
