I am buying a scope for by gball sniper (soon to be posted needs to be cleaned up) and then i suddebly realized the tee breech got in the way of mounting it on the top i was wondering if side mounting it would make a big difference.

It would look weird but it wouldnt make any difference unless you have some weird scope that doesnt work when its on its side or something like that.

It might and it might not work, because you have to consider the factor of your projectile declining in height as it propels further.

but if you are shooting at close range and the psi is high (if it is a pneumatic) then you should be fine. and yeah, it would work that way but would look strange.

EDIT: it also depends on what type of scope, if it has the different distance markers or not.

Well the scope will not be completeley on is side but angled a little. Also can anyone suggest a decent scope.

It will work fine a any slope but it may be a bit awkward zooming in or focusing if its at an angle so choose the angle that is the most comfortable for you to look through with.

it shouldn't matter all that much... if anything it will look more badass.

for a type of scope, for beginners and this situation, either go with a simple (and cheap) red dot scope or and even simpler (and cheaper) cross hair scope.

you don't need to be fancy with your scope. on a spud gun a cheap daisy scope at wal-mart will work. maybe an inexpensive bushnell. unless your projectiles are consistent and your propulsion system is flawless an expensive scope will do absolutely nothing for you. buy whatever is cheap and looks good.

Both the Dragunov and the Galil sniper rifles have sidemounted scopes, why not:

There is a slight Charlie Foxtrot once you get into on-the-fly range adjustment with this type of scope, because of the line of sight intersecting the parabola of the bullet path and then continuing. If you shoot at a consistent range and aren't bugged by it, then go ahead...

OR... you know what would be REALLY cool, is you write a small program to handle the adjustments for things like this, onto a TI-83 or similar, (if you have one... I don't), and then tape that to your stock. That would make it one bad-ass operating sniper rifle.

Given that the RT-20 is a "recoilless rifle" that directs some of the propelling gas backwards throiugh the upper tube in order to mitigate the recoil of the massive 20mm round, as mentioned in the first link the chances of the soldier illustrated retaining his backpack after firing are very slim indeed
