heey!
got up with this: if you use a really small and strong chamber and a long small calibre barrel then you mabe can put Co2 in it to it gets liquid of the pressure. then you can get a great amount of power from a really small portable gun.

will it work? c:b ratio of 0.1:1 or something.
just start getting tired of all my heavy metal guns (my hybrid was suposed to be handheld but it is all to heavy) so a small chamber will get it ligheter and more compact.

It may or may not put liquid in your small chamber. However, unregulated, it will put 800 or 900 psi in it. I'm not sure on what kind of power you would get, though.

Edit: Had a brain fart. A Tippmann has a valve of about 2.5cc. That is a fairly small chamber compared to the barrel. It is capable of firing in excess of 300fps. That may give you an idea of what you're looking at. Also, GGDT may be able to help as well.

as long as your chamber and valve will withstand the cold and the pressure of co2 it will work. your barrel must also withstand higher pressure, reason is that the liquid in the chamber will flash to it's gaseous form releasing alot energy in the process. to get liquid co2 from a tank you will need a tank with a siphon tube, or on smaller tanks you can simply turn them upside down and get liquid co2. i feel realy old saying this but back in the day we use to run our paintball guns on liquid co2 in the winter cause it was more consistent pressure. a few companys even designed markers to use liquid co2 such as the Icon-Z and Mega-Z's, 68 Specials and SMG-60s, you might want to give this a read it is paintball related but may help. http://www.vmempire.com/liquidco2.htm

It's certainly possible, but you'll be limited to less than 800 fps by the cold CO2. And 0.1:1 is more for gases at decent pressure, 300 psi or so. For something like this, it is way inefficient. Try more like 0.01:1, with a few cubic inches of chamber, and a really long barrel.

I would think dry ice would be easier to obtain and still get reasonable high PSI out of it...

That is what I do I use dry ice to get to high pressures because i can get it for free.
But I belive it is quite expencive to buy if you cant get it for free.
but the liquid CO2 thing should work but it would be hard to obtain and also expensive and im not sure on the saftey of it .

True but even if only useing a little bit it depletes itself rater quikley after a lot of shots.

I've never used it before but it sounds like it could be my next project after I finish the few I'm on now....

Still with a pound of ice that should last quite a few shots. I would think any way...of course storing it is something else...

Yes for the storing i use these foam box things that supposedly make the dry ice not evaporeate they actually work rather well but i have no idea were you would get one my dad is a sceintist so i have acsess to this kinda stuff

There use to be plenty of places that sell it though its getting harder to find it now. We've got one store I know of in New Hampshire...they general only sell to medical facilities or science facilities in large quantities but will sell some to the general public.
However if your below 18 forget it they automatically assume your up to something...

Didn't you say you Dad was a scientist though... any way this store won't...but others may.
It still would be safer and easier to handle and probably easier to get...

for chamber a good choice would be hydraulic piping "stainless" i can get that stuff with a rating of 11 603.019psi!
i have thought of making a 20x hybrid using it!

and for a valve i can use burst disk just put the chamber in dry ice so the Co2 becomes liquid with almost zero pressure then pick it up and place it on a stand on a sunny day. (this will be testing if it gets made)
