Finding distances of projectiles

Can someone tell me and easy way to find distances?

I didn't want to post this because I've seen a thread that showed how to do it with google earth but I searched for half an hour with no luck so I just decided to post.

So if someone could tell me how it's done or can post a link to where it's explained I would greatly appretiate it.

Make a simple "Clicker Wheel". If you have a wheel that i say 1mtr in circumference (318.3mm diameter) an axle and a pole to hold, all you need then is something that clicks so that you can count how many metres you just walked :)
That or use a measuring tape, laser range finder or a cat (they generally fly about 10metres with a good throw)

I personally prefer the cat method.

I can't use that cause my cat is a fat ass.
I think I could make a damn nice sabot for a 12 inch barrel...

You could use Google Earth, it has a "ruler" tool that will let you measure the distance between points.

Yes that is what I do.
it works quite well you justr have to know exactly were your projectile lands.

Unless you're willing to shell out several hundred bucks for one of these, the best way to find you projectiles is either some sort of LED/glowstick arrangement in the tail if fired at night, or a frangible nose filled with talcum powder or similar if shot during the day.

Run it through GGDT and get a ball park range...

Take it to a driving range and ask first....

Or measure off every hundred yards with a pedometer or a long tape measure and launch a round containing talcum powder and see where it lands. Depending on the size of your cannon you might only have the hike a little ways...
