I dont see how a silencer could affect the velocity of something.

Indeed, if the projectile is making physical contact with the suppressor, then it's being slowed down by friction. If the friction is greater that the accelerating force of the propelling gasses behind the projectile, then it's going to slow down. Sometimes, this is a deliberate effect, like in the MP5SD, which can fire normally supersonic 9mm ammunition and slow it down to below the speed of sound to avoid the sonic "crack". Of course a better idea is to use special subsonic ammunition which wastes no energy and usually has a heavier bullet, but the ability to use any ammunition does give the operator more tactical flexibility.D_Hall wrote:Read your own link.
