Hi, So I was using my combustion cannon yesterday with STATIC Guard NOT HAIRSPRAY cause it makes junk all sticky...Anyway I flooded the chamber and took the end cap off to see if it would fire...Stupid mistake...It fired and there was like a mini fire inside the chamber...I ran it down to the hyrdont and flushed it with coooool water...Now the cap will only screw on like 1-2 turns...Is it safe to fire? Is there anyway to rethread it? Would buying a new endcap fix this?

Hmmm....I'll think about pictures...But I really dont see why it screws on so much harder...The threads are VERY SLIGHTLY flat at the top on one side and just wont screw on very well....I'll be back with pic's I think, My camera sucks though

But my immediate reccomendation would be to cut off the male adaptor and glue on a new one, and get a new endcap if that got melted at all.

If he's using a cap rather than a plug, there'd be male threads on the chamber, and female threads on the cap. Which makes me wonder how the threads were damaged at all by a fire inside the chamber...

Im guessing its a cleanout cap.

My cap is the one that has threads on it. I screw it in the gun......

What you might try...

Screw your threaded plug in pretty hard with a large wrench. This is done in attempt to forcefully remove debris, or thread imperfections. I will do it with new plugs, or plugs with damaged threads. Worth a try.

You could just go buy yourself a brass end cap and work that in there. It should re-thread it if you do it right. I suggest putting the brass cap in a vice and twisting the gun itself onto it. That way, you have the weight of the gun, and whatever weight you put on it working with you to force that puppy in.

Or...if it's just a matter of it being dirty/a little deformed, you could just spray it down with some Pam and scrub the inside with a wire brush. This would help with my end cap problems on my basic combustions back when I used hairspray.

No, it is not safe to fire. I am pretty sure that you don't want to have a plug flying right at your face at...a really high speed. I don't think that you can rethread it, and I am pretty sure that buying a new plug would not fix this. I suggest you try to screw it in all the way with pliers, and then unscrew it, and then repeat the process about...I don't know, maybe about ten times and the see if it gets any better. If it doesn't get any better, come back here, and tell me so I will know for the future if it actually works or not...and no, I did not just make this up right now, I actually studied it to see if it actually works No, but seriously, I am pretty sure that this will work. Stop thinking that I randomly thought of something...I am pretty sure that this will work.

I believe those two terms are mutually exclusive in the plumbing world...

Getting rid of that thing (whatever it is, possibly a cleanout plug?) and replacing it with a proper, pressure rated threaded plug would be in your best interests.

I don't see how a brass cap would help at all, considering that it would have female threads and all, and a brass plug would cost you a fortune and a half. You could get a malleable iron plug from McMaster if you really want to get the crap out of the threads.

Standing in front of the cleanout plug is never a good idea, whether it's threads are screwed up or not.

Still, I wouldn't recoomend using it, 1 or 2 turns ain't much

Whenever you have a misfire be sure to fully air out your chamber before testing your ignition. As far as your threads are concerned the pam idea above is a good one, but you may have burned and ruined the inner threads possibly melting them out of shape. You could try using a adjustable wrench on your cleanout plug to force thread it, or just scrap the gun a build a new one. Sometimes i can only thread mine 2 FULL turns, as long as your not using propane 2 threads should be enough, but more is obviously better. GL
