Hmm

Do you guys reckon a human powered (lung) cannon could be entered into the contest?

Only if it has something new and innovative. Breech loading blowguns are old school unless you make a pop-off QEV full auto. If you do I will be impressed!.

I was thinking blow forward breech with mag, red dot scope, green laser point, bayonet, flashlight and underbarrel grenade launcher (pneuatic pre charged burst disk).

Edit: silencer/muzzle BRAKE, molded mouthpiece,

No joke..

Biggest obstacles is the 2-3 psi I'll get even from my large, healthy lungs (I believe that's about correct). Power is not wanting at well over 300+ fps (via sound recording technique) but there is a lack of pressure to act against springs etc..

I only need a spring or a method of returning the bolt that could be returned automatically. Perhaps just a manual method..

Edit: far out, blowguns are illegal in Australia. I guess I'll just say it's a piece of pipe if the police raid me looking for weapons.. Various attachments shall be removable. (btw, the laser pointer is illegal too, but the bayonet isn't)

Message? Play with knives, not pieces of pipe.

I'm in the editing process of my home-made barrel sealing piston valve. GGDT says i'll get 1000 fps with a marble at 400 psi...
I've shot bolts with duct tape tails, they go through 3/4" plywood at 200 psi.
So far, i've had to deal with some leaking problems, i've put some superglue in the thread to take care of that problem!
I'll post a video soon...But since it's my first barrel sealing piston canon, i find it pretty cool, and damn it is loud! at 250 psi outside it cacks a sharp sound! Next step is a 6mm barrel, to shot airsoft BB's, and since i play airsoft on sundays, i have loads of BB's haha :D
So, that's what i'm building at the moment ;)

Edit : GGDT predicts 372 m/s with a 1m long 6mm barrel and a .25 grams BB

Of course, you won't run above the legal airsoft FPS.. Wouldn't want to get anyone hurt. Do you or your field have a chrono?

Nooo it's not to go play with it!!! My airsoft AEG is a M16 mk12 mod 0 ('SPR')
and shoots at a reasonable 380 fps. I play with friends and We don't play to hurt ourselves!
One of the members is waiting for his chrony to arrive..so i'll be happy to give you an estimate of the muzzle velocity. Still, i could do it really precisely with a 1200fps video footage.

Unusual and innovative... :?: :?

:!: Aha, an unusual way to get marshmallows supersonic. Nested launchers :!: .

If we stick the marshmallow launcher in the 4 inch foam ball launcher and launched it on a 25 foot string so it launched in air,.. Let's see 300 FPS on initial + 700 on secondary... Darn, still not fast enough. :D I need to build a small BB gun to fit the marshmallow launcher! :!: :D

I actually seriously considered asking you for help with that once I got my marshmallow gun finished, I was considering building a miniature one, but I was looking to avoid the rod for resetting and all that, but did not know how I could put back the piston with a rope :?

I might still be up to it, but I do not just want to abandon the mini marshmallow gun, I will see :)

In the mean time, please do so I can follow your design!

Oops..Kind of.. Shot a dart through the shed. (prototype gun)

It penetrated a sheet of ply (bloody sabot got torn off), went through my last sheet of corflute and penetrated an inch deep through the wall of the shed. Dad was annoyed but he was drunk so him and his mates found it very funny..

I'll post a pic from the outside tomorrow, getting late here.

Piston on a rope works. My first one was. It's kind of a PIA to snake a rod in the back and push the piston exactly into the right spot to seal. Sometimes it catches a wad of rope so the piston is pushed too far forward. The rod is oh so much easier. :)

Good luck on the design. If you don't weld or braze, PVC works fine. So does sched 40 cellular core ABS DWV, but it's not recommended.
:D

FYI on the ABS DWV cannon, I use a length of 1/8th inch brazing rod. The rope and rod is marked with a sharpie to show where to stop pushing.
Due to the shape of the piston in that cannon, I had to make the flat PVC washer for the rod to push. It is the only reason the washer is there.

For use at the church camp, I kept the rod, a type of key. It prevented unauthorized use of the cannon so nobody got hurt. :D

I"m so glad you started this thread cause I am really excited about my new gun and I wanted to show it off but its not done yet. here it is. as you can see it dont have a sprinkler valve. I cant find one anywhere so I'm gonna have to order one online. its like no one in kentucky waters their yard. lol. also I gotta make a barrel support for it. and eventually I"m gonna make a bi-pod for it.

Try an irrigation supply place.

Nice gun boom, should be a clean and powerful thing to play with.

Seen as my big bore pcp (full auto) project was boycotted the pipes are being used to make a 300 psi co-ax sniper.

Image
Inside of chamber.

Eventual operating pressure will be 300 psi, barrel length is approx 1.3m with a .378 bore. Primary ammo will be darts and lead slugs.

(by the way, the damage shot from before was with the same barrel and a small dart.. and that was a blowgun. Piston valve should be suitably impressive..)

Edit: Does anyone know if there's a good way to test if a piston will seal before gluing up the chamber.. such as forcing it against a piece of tube and pressurizing it or something? Just that with the method of sticking it together I'm using it would require sacrificing some of the barrel and chamber if it fails.. Thanks

Well after years of thought (stretching all the way back to Spudtech) I've now got almost all the bits ready in my head for my BB Repeating hybrid, and I've found someone with a mill and lathe who can make up the bits for me.

BUT there's still one bit that's got me stumped, and that's fuelling. I have a feeling I'll have to go with a pre-mixed fuel/air supply (which I'm not that keen on, unless someone can come up with a way to meter based solely on trigger pull, I've been puzzling for ages and I'm still stumped.
