i actually have been building spudguns since i was 11(about 5 years) so yeah i guess you could say i'm hooked. I started out building little self-bows.
one day i was looking on youtube and saw a trebuchet and then i built me a few of those. and then one day i was once again searching youtube and happen to type in golf ball launcher which was what my next trebuchet was going to be and i just happened to see a spudgun, its not hard to guess but i dropped my trebuchet hobby pretty fast.

Well there was a time were I loved building new cannons, but the money issue got me caught after building a few big cannons. Now I can just say I'll try to incorporate a couple of smaller cannon designs into 1 complex one. So I don't build alot of different spudguns. :D

I'm certainly capable of quitting making cannons. I just have no real reason to want to.

I probably couldn't quit designing them though...

Aside: Can you please stop using txt abbreviations like "ur"? It's bad netiquette, against forum guidelines and doesn't do you any favours in how your intelligence is perceived.
This isn't text messaging, you're not charged extra for too many letters.

On that note, some capital letters wouldn't go amiss either.

If that doesn't sound like an addict, I don't know what does

An addict is someone who would struggle to quit even if they wanted to - becoming physiologically or psychologically dependent on the addiction.

How exactly does that line up to "I could quit, but I don't want to"?

I have tried to indulge in other hobbies but nothing so far has equalled the rush of making something out of relative spare parts capable of such disproportionate power, everything else seems effeminate by comparison.

(sorry... I couldn't resist)

I completely agree with that... I bought an air gun but I don't use it very often... it seems so weak in comparison

but I have to admit that I had most fun with the most basic spudguns... i suppose it has something to do with growing up becasue I don't really have as much free time as I had at school

It's not just the power, it's the fact that you bought it. Anyone can do that. Rolling your own is something else ;)

I was first introduced to the idea of spudguns several years ago. About 5 years ago, long after I was introduced, I built my first gun. It was a pill bottle combustion and I still have it somewhere in my room. I rescued a potato from being cooked with Thanksgiving dinner and proceeded to shoot little pellets at everything.

After that, I stepped it up to pneumatics. I built 3 diaphragm coaxials. I consider those the foundation of all my projects since. More recently I've built burst disk guns, dart guns, golf ball guns, tennis ball guns, and currently I'm working on a semi auto nerf gun. I've probably only posted a third of what I made. I attribute that to the fact that most of my projects are dismantled and used for parts on the next project within a couple months time.

I try in vain to get out of building spudguns because I burn through money like you wouldn't believe. I might focus on r/c planes or other stuff for a while, but no more than 6 months goes by and I come back to spudguns. There's nothing like the satisfaction of making something with your own hands and then watching it blow things apart.

Yes, I am hooked.

Spudgunning offers the opportunity to discover and work with many aspects of the chemical and physical sciences as well as to design, construct and manipulate many different material types. One will also necessarily have to become familiar with hand and power tools and building methods in the pursuit. Obvious lessons in safety are abundant throughout the building and usage process.

I personally believe it to be the ultimate DIY type hobby.
