1000 FPS Pneumatic Cannon...

Is it possible to make a pneumatic that can hit 1000 FPS? No, I'm not going to fire it at people, animals, or private property. I'll just use it to lob golf ball-sized things in the sky or across the park. And of course add every posssible safety feature to it...

i bet that if you got some big ass steel pipe and charged it to like 2500 psi , and had a steel golfball barrell you could probably hit 1000 fps, the valves im not so sure about. maybe double 4" butterfly valves........

1000 fps is about Mach 0.9. No matter how much pressure you have, I doubt you can accelerate a projectile to that speed using air at a constant (it's actually dropping due to decompression) temperature. As for the valve, you'd probably need to make a mildly explosive burst disk. I don't think the GGDT can compute systems at transonic speed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

you can make one that will hit that speed, freefall's HVPL-01 goes above it, just skimming the sound barrier, i made a copy of it, though mine doesnt perform as well (shorter barrel)

Can you post a link to the HVPL-01? I searched and found no results..

Mach .9 is no biggy - although you won't be able to acheive it with reasonably massed projectiles, any kid with solvent and a sprinkler valve could put together a gun which would get a paintball to 1000 fps - albeit with a long barrel.

or nitrogen or carbon dioxide :)
