Well, the titel isn't especially revealing about this topic but I failed to think of a better one, I am happy to edit if someone does.

I have thought of a second project along side my first one, both projects will hopefully be finished before november.
While one project is well thoughts out in terms of looks(the single action pellet gun i'v talked about alot) the other one has a few gaps.

The project will probably shoot 8mm ball bearings. I plan for it to be a pneumatically powered replicate(in terms of looks) of a ThompsonM1A1. Now I could make it a bolt action, like in the pictures supplied, or I could make it truely semi auto, really it doesn't make a huge difference if I use the mechanism I came up with.

So the question is: Should I build a semi auto or boltaction M1A1 replica?

Haha 50/50, when you vote please make a little post with reasoning, just so i know, even if its "Bolt action cause i like it".

Alright there has to be more than two people who have an opinion on this.

Is your gun going to be hooked up to a compressor or something, if it is I'd say semi-auto because you are not limited by the number of shots.

But if your gun is self contained I think bolt-action would be cool and a good way to conserve shots.

I don't see what you mean by this. In both cases a 20-25shot mag will be attached. The gun will most probably be hooke dup to a compressor or will be run of external tanks. The design is made in such a way that air consumption per shot is IDENTICAL in both cases.

I just mean that if you are hooked up to a aircompressor you could have as many high power shots as your mag will allow, whereas if it were all selfcontained the main air camber would be the limiting factor, you could have lots of shots but they would relatively low power.

Because it will be hooked up to something I say go with semi.

Btw this sounds like an awesome project.

Alright, sounds like a plan :D.

This is, hopefully, going to be an awsome project, though i am facing a few difficulties(i notices my lathe chuck is too small to fit certain parts, and i am having trouble finding one of the jaws that was flung of in an attempt to mount the piece anyway). I am still planning out my drill press purchase and i am having difficulties finding cheap parts in my country therefore am shipping from the UK(this includes my ammo... )

I am hoping to have finished both the planned projects before 2010, and the one discussed here perhaps a few months before that. But I will have to see, and looking at my slightly chaotic planning ahead of time never works.

But i will promise(with 99% certainty) that i'll post the mech i have come up with in a M1A1 look. The gun will be, due to voting, a proper semi auto.

Happy spudding and thanks for your opinions. Hope to get back to you with a cannon soon.

As far as your lathe chuck goes, you can get whats known as "outside jaws" if it didn't come with any. Mine did and they come in handy big time.

I think boom shtick means the M1 with the bazooka connection, where a small fitting was added to the end of the barrel, then a blank was fired and a grenade was shot, propelled by the blank, but no boom, I don't think he's thinking about adding the bazooka hook-up.
