Pneumatic Auto Possibility 2

I came up with another idea on how to make an auto pneumatic. When the pop-off valve on the right pops up, it hits a lever which lifts the catch on the piston allowing it to slide forward and work like a normal piston valve. After the air is dumped, the spring pushes it back and the catch grabs it and the air builds up again. The thing I'm worried about most is the strength of the catch, the spring will dampen some of the air's force but not all that much.

how do you think of these. :D

Your above system, in short, is when the pressure reaches a desired pressure it allows the piston to move. This system uses a spring-loaded pop-off saftey valve, and by adding that mechanism you will proably prevent the pof-off from activating.

To solve your problem you can look at BCPneumatics AutoPneumatic. It uses a pressure switch, and when the pressure reaches a certain pressure it will either open or close the circut. So you could use the same basic design as above and replace the pop-off for the pressure switch, then switch out the "locking" mechanism with a electric soleniod. A problem you might face with this is when the piston opens in closes there is a great possibilty that it will rotate, therefore the alingments of the holes will be off. You could simply cut a groove all the way around the piston to fix this problem.

One question though, do you ever intend on building the designs you post?

I liked the 1st desigh a lot better, i think this one with the out side moveing parts has the possibilty of getting damaged dureing transport/handling/dirt interferance.

I don't have any time to build anything right now, work, track, school, etc. I get my license next week. I work on weekends, I'm looking for a weekday job. I'm not sure how I come up with these ideas, they just come to me. I've always been good at figuring things out. I built a crossbow out of KNEX once, I think I have pics of it.

ah yes knex lol. i used to make swords out of those, once i made a really nice masamune out of one and wrapped it in ducttape (it was friggin hard). but that is an interesting concept, it might take a little revising and some more thought but i believe that your design for an automatic pneumatic valve should work if you put the effort into designing one and building it yourself. if you manage to build it or come up with a new design let me know, i really enjoy checking out new concepts. :D

um sorry for kicking up a dead topic, so dont flame me for it, but isnt there a pneu auto tutorial in the vid section of bcvids?

There's also a standard pneumatic design on there too, but people design others, just because there's more than one way to do something. And besides, some people can't watch those BECAUSE WINDOWS IS RETARTED!
