Well I didn't give him advice, just referred to spudfiles. Everything I know and more can be found here.

Besides the website of his company doesn't look very professional...

The only question that comes to my mind:
Are there other people who take advantage of this website to make profit? If you are searching for air cannons on the web it is inevitable to find spudfiles.

As psycix pointed out:
psycix wrote:Don't forget the target boat is much larger and way more stable. You can shoot way more accurate from that then from the tiny boat the pirates drive.
The point is though that given the general attitude of these people, they have more of a spray and pray approach when it comes to hitting things , hence their love for tovarish Kalashnikov's creation.

No doubt there are, but to directly ask someone for free advice for what is clearly a lucrative commercial venture, then claiming you are "helping us develop a more effective anti piracy device that can be put to good use" as if to offer some sort of moral reward is more than a little patronising if you ask me.

Personally I would be a bit hesitant to share my knowledge with someone who will likely profit considerably from my advice.
Yeah, and where did all these navy commandos come from?? I did that stuff at one time in my life and I dare say that I would rather be appalled at being forced to use a spud gun to take on an aggressor.

== Time OUT! == I gotta change scuba tanks... where's that blasted wrench!

Yeah, thats the ticket...

JSR:  Moral justification. Sounds like they need a reason or something...

Fair comment, though let's not forget that there was a timewhen professional soldiers trusted air weapons with their lives and by most accounts were pretty formidable.

Yeah, pffft!

LOL... So?

You're dealing with a niche market. As such, they don't need fancy websites. Hell, a simple one liner with contact information is about all they'd need.
The only question that comes to my mind:

Almost certainly. I know for a fact that Tippmann uses GGDT. How do you think they found out about it?

Haha D_Hall how did you find out Tippmann uses that? I personally find that hilarious.

One of their employees was having problems with it modeling a certain scenario and emailed me. It was actually pretty funny because within minutes I got email from Mr. Tippmann himself.

Basically, they were using GGDT sans license and I think they freaked out when they realized that I then had evidence of software piracy on their part.

Niche market or not, a 15 year old can do better with a program like Net Objects Fusion. Your appearance is important and I wouldn't give the lifes of my crew and my ship into the hand of some wannabes.

The last thing we want to do is to encourage the pirates to open fire on the vessel with AK47's and RPG's. Shooting at them encourages them to do just that. We do not show our air cannons until the pirates are right next to the vessel and we are in actual danger of being boarded.
That surprises me.
Imagine being a pirate in a tiny boat. You set course to some big oil tanker and while approaching, one hell of a cannon starts firing big things at you.
You gotta be really brave* to go pew-pew with your AK.

Having a BIG gun on the ship is the only way to let them know who's the boss.

*At persons with a certain attitude, brave equals stupid.

My point exactly. I work with a bunch of ex-special forces types. Know how good with computers they are? They aren't. A small company filled with honest to gawd killers? I would almost expect a crappy webpage.

edit: Oh, and they ALL tend to be of the "Appearances don't mean shite. Results are what matter." mold. Again, totally consistent with a crappy webpage.

You and me both. I've been lucky enough to shed the testosterone brain fog that was encouraged and found out we aren't indestructible. Well, that and a really close call with some high explosives.... Anyway, I've found others of the 'special forces' genre who have come out of the fog as well and actually have a brain. The others? I think they're still making workout videos and bragging about that 'one' shot.
Oh, and they ALL tend to be of the "Appearances don't mean shite.
Yeah, thats why we like the A-10 and such. :D

I wouldn't stop at golf balls, some USGF 3" rounds would be more appropriate. Or, ooh ooh! I know! Since they claim to have taken to piracy because all the nasty westerners emptied their fishing areas, JUMBO CANS OF TUNA! :D

I tend to agree there, pretty is as pretty does.

Or how about a flying fish in a sabot, you'd have yourself a pneumatic glide bomb... it would give "Exocet" a whole new meaning :)

Quick though, there goes another one :?
