So its christmas and I got a Casio fs10, its the smallest in the line of casios highspeed camera but Im really pleased. After doin a couple tests I decided to try bring out my golfball gun and give it a go.

So far only 1 vid but many more tomorrow, sorry bout the match light at the end but its still pretty cool.

The tape pieces are a foot apart and it seems to be doing about 400 fps

Nice... I've got the EX-FC100, which is the same camera with a slightly bigger lens, image stabilization and no auto focus during movies.

It does a pretty good job usually, although often at 210fps (depending on filming conditions) videos come out looking quite blocky from compression (is the fs10 the same in this regard)
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.

Nice, although I have to warn you; the novelty of the highspeed video wears off quicker than you might expect. And editing the videos can be a real PITA. You'll learn to be particular with the light you use in the videos, as anything AC tends to pulsate, either in amplitude, or between 2 different colors. It is very distracting.

Oh cool Im still debating whether or not to get the fc100 it was the camera I was originally planning on getting but my camera store only had this one, but I can go back and pay about 65 bucks more to get the fc100. I liked the bigger lense and longer zoom, but it appears other than stabilization I think the sensors the same. How do you like your fc100? How does the cmos image stabilization work out? I havent noticed any blockyness from compression.

It works pretty well, but only for images. When you hit the shutter button you can hear the sensor buzz as it shifts around, responding to the acelerometer that measures camera shake.

I'll upload a couple of files in a minute to show what I mean with compression... under some filming conditions, the video looks perfect, pretty much on par with a normal video of that resolution. However, somtimes (even in good light) it gives horrible artifacts and blockiness in the resulting video. I don't think it's any flaw in my camera or it's sensor, as HD video and photos don't have any of these issues.

EDIT:

Here's a couple of files showing the inconsistency of quality with my cam. First up is a still from a video shot at a friends place (removed his face because I don't know if he would want it here or not). Anyway, notice how damn noisy and compressed the frame looks. The whole vid is like that, with lots of blocky artifacts and other quality issues.

Image

Compare that with this short video of a hoverfly... admittedly the background is blurred which could be helping, but the video just looks sooo much better than the other one... very crisp and clear with no quality issues.

Also, you're lucky to have had a camera shop that stocks either of them... no-one in my area had anything casio, so I ended up importing it from New York (to Australia).

Wow, that's pretty impressive for a consumer level camera!

Do they happen to have remote shutter releases (or whatever you'd call it)?

Not that I am aware of. Sadly, the EX-FC100 lacks quite a few manual controls (aperture and shutter speed etc) which would make it an even better camera.

On the plus side it can burst 30 6mp images in a second, and be set up so that any motion will trigger it and it will burst those 30 images at whatever speed you set, and also save however many images you want that occured BEFORE the camera was triggered. So you could set it up to do 30 images over 2 seconds, with 15 of those images occuring before the trigger goes off.

As I mentioned before, it can be annoying trying to find shooting conditions that suit it, but once you do the results can be quite impressive.

Perhaps someone should make a highspeed thread for this sort of thing?

That would be nice :) especially if someone could capture high speed footage of a BBMG in action...

Even better, with a clear block, chamber (barrel as well I suppose) and smoke in the gas flow. It would provide a very interesting visualization of what's going on in there.

Edit: And it would provide basic proof that 'there will only be one projectile in the barrel at a time'- with a long enough barrel the performance of bbmg's could be very high with a lower rate of fire.

Just made a thread for high-speed stuff so I can stop hijacking this thread with my videos.
