Using teflon tape in place of an o-ring in compact valve

In compact piston valves, people seal the rear bushing with an o-ring. But I heard somewhere, cant remember exactly where, that you could seal slip fittings with a few wraps of teflon tape, but I highly doubt it. Teflon in not a sealant, but a lubricant. There is a small chance it could work though, making compact piston valves possibly easier to make. I know clemsonguy abandoned his compact valve because of his o-ring problem, and maybe this can solve it. Comments? Gotta go now but I will get the replies tomorrow.

I've said it 1,000 times before, but you can also use a gasket.

Mr.Crowley used teflon tape on some of his piston valves, IIRC, but that sealed a cap.
