How do you mount a sight on your cannon?

Hi all.

It didn't take me long to want a sight on my cannon. I happen to have a Tru Glo 4X so cobbled it on there with a strip of aluminum and some tape. Right away I cold see a huge problem in adjusting down the elevation of the Red Dot. Maxed out the dot is still above the target.

Being new to this I assume that you guys have worked out some way better solutions.

Care to clue me in?

Thanks!

An appropriately sized strip of aluminium epoxied to the chamber should do the trick, I would suggest our sponsors but I know you like to make your own stuff ;)

jook13 found an interesting solution but it only works for smaller calibres.

Now that's a piece of work and steal at $24.99

I betcha I can carve one from a piece of purple heart in about a week :D

Just need to sharpen those chisels. All the time. :x

One thing that was a little unnerving for me is performing cheek weld with a piece of PVC not rated for pressure. I mean even with my face squished up on the chamber I can just get my eye in the center of the sight. I guess having my melon so close to an improvised munition makes me a little weamish.

What about something more traditional like a ghost ring or sight tube or even a peep sight with a post on the end of the barrel? Have you guys seen anyone do that? The red dot and magnification of the Tru Glo are nice, but I'm thinking something simpler might be more my speed.

Now that's some engineering I can relate too:D

I'm going to try elevating the sights away from the cannon a bit to calm my nerves and see what kind of accuracy I can get using something like what you came up with.

The cannon is pretty hefty so I tend to put it on my shoulder like a rocket launcher. Unlike a rocket launcher it recoils fiercely and I already said hello to the Tru Glo with my brow ridge once. So a better pistol type grip is also part of the equation.

Tinker tinker. This stuff is such a great time waster.

Thanks for the link.

I have used a red dot on my first gun :D , i just mounted a rail on a block of wood then locked the wooden block on the piston valve with ghost rings(later fixed with bondo, works better :) )
But now i just simply glue the rail permanently with fiberglass paste :D

I made a weaver mount for my M16 a few days ago out of two layers of PVC, one to mount to the gun and one for the accessory to mount on. It is a perfect fit and allows me to take off my lazer if I want to put it back on my pistol. I can put a picture up if you want.

Yes please. I've got wood and fiberglass on hand but I need to snag a few large hose clamps. Until I know it's going to work I'll need to move it around.

I was thinking about trying to cut those Bevels on the picatinny with my table saw using some Polycarbonate, then make stand offs of wood with aluminum plates and strapping that whole conglomeration of wizardry on the chamber. But sometimes I make it more complicated than it needs to be

I'll agree with you there, because:

You can buy one ready made good enough for spudgun use for almost nothing!

Link Master. Master of the Hyperlink. I bow before your stash of bookmarks :D

I know it makes absolutely no sense to make this stuff. But it keeps me off the streets.

Once I get my play fund built up I'll be purchasing a few bits of Cannon Jewelry for my beast. I'm a sucker for machined aluminum.

Thanks again.

Hey, here's a few pictuers of the FREE rail :D Made of 2 layers of 1.25" pvc, because the place I mounted it was on a 3/4" coupling and those fit well inside 1.25" pipe. I used a bench grinder to make it the right size and angles etc.

That's slick. A Laser is on my to do list.

I managed to mount the Tru Glo using some aluminum and doublestick tape. Not sure if it's in the right location so I wanted to test it first before committing.

Thanks for the pics.

No problem, just to let you know, I didn't make the laser.
