Again, I think a simple hefty spring is more than enough

Can you design a simple to make but very sturdy releasing mechanism for the tail? Springs can be quite dangerous, I would not like to shoot MrCrowley's eye out

I have something in mind, will try to scribble something at home but I must warn you, I only have a tiny dell laptop with a very excrementy touch pad. I'm probably better off using the webcam to take pictures of a marker sketch

Has anyone ever tried installing a Presta or Schrader valve into a used co2 cartridge?
I do not have access to one.

LeMaudit could easily do that if the cartridge neck is thick enough. It could then be charged via air compressor or co2 tire inflator for less pressure than what a new co2 cartridge has.

Dispensing a glow in the dark fluid or a black light dye/powder could be used.

The only concern I would have with a piezo alarm is if the projectile is buried in the sand/dirt that you may get the alarm covered up by the sand and making it useless.

With a air/co2 pressure the sand/dirt will be blown away giving you a small crater.

Nothing beat a sketch pad!

[edit] about the CO2 idea... maybe the blow holes could make some noise while expelling some die, like a whistle

I was thinking more of just the Shrader/Presta valve inside the neck of cartridge.

The how-to is a bit complex, because the intention was to be able to use the modded CO₂ capsules in commercial airguns. Simply epoxying in a schrader would be much simpler.

I think I've seen at a local hardware store some small refillable containers, looking just like CO2 cartridges... maybe I'll go buy one, just for fun...

If you knew the threads used on the inside of a schrader you could just tap the mouth of the cartridge and thread the stem in

I'm still trying to think of a way to deploy glow-in-the-dark dye, JSR's plunger idea was pretty good except I fear the piston would have to be at the nose and plunge backwards, meaning it could deploy upon launch in the barrel.

I think using the pressure to push/expel/deploy something on impact could be easy to do with CO2. And on the cheap side. The cartridge could simply puncture. Just an idea among others...

I have a few designs in mind for a spring-loaded tail section which mostly involve the tail being held in place by a detent which in turn is held by a weight. The latter is displaced on impact releasing the detent and therefore the tail.

In spite of LeMaudit's skills being up to the job however, I think a pressurised container would probably be a better idea. It could have a schrader epoxied on one end and have the other end threaded for a burst disk.

Not helpful for recovery, but how 'bout an afterburner affect for a little extra?
