Wow. things like this are what give spudgunners such a bad name.. and in australia to boot! Wouldn't be surprised if theres some jail time involved... not only for the shooting in the head.. but possession of an illegal weapon.

Ouch. 2 in the morning, I'll wager alcohol was involved.
Another article wrote:The 24-year-old man was camping with friends in Gurnang State Forest, south of Oberon, when a potato gun discharged, striking him in the head about 2am (AEST) on Saturday, police said.
No, someone discharged it. I don't want to say "guns don't kill people, people do" but this is ridiculous. I've seen it in other spudgun accident articles in the media, where the device itself is made out to be evil without any mention of personal responsibility.

I hope this doesn't have repercussions for responsible Aussie spudders.

yea.... someone definitely did it.

Probably drunk, probably thought, "oh lets shoot each other and see if it hurts!" And then proceeded to clock the guy in the head.

The fact that they say a crime scene has been established definitely means someone discharged it.

A lot of people out there still think spudguns are a joke and can't really harm someone in a major way....until they get shot in the head.

Most journalists are retards - they don't care about accuracy and facts
but possession of an illegal weapon
just out of curiosity... what could they do if they had found just a bunch of fittings (disassembled gun)?

If "they" are snooping around your house, they're looking for something. Chances are if you only had disassembled fittings, they'd go after you for "pipe b0mb5" or similar, especially considering that most spudders will have an ignition system, or at least some sort of homemade electric circuits hanging around (as you could probably guess, most cops can't tell the difference and have no inclination to).

Happily, spudguns can't really get any more illegal in Australia, being as they're already grouped together with conventional firearms.

I'm sure Mr. Surprise would not be happy with the association.

If you are caught with a pnuematic you are charged with having a class A weapon. That's air rifles, rimfires, shotguns etc. If you're coaught with a combustion under 120cm, you're charged with having a class B, centrefires, muzzle loaders, small cannons.

If you're caught with a combustion over 120cm or BBMG, that's either a class D, semi auto rimfires with a magazine holding over 10 rounds, semi auto centrefires and pump/semi shotguns with a magazine over 5 rounds.

Or it could be class R, .50BMGs, flamethrowers, machine guns, artillery and bullet/stab vests.

There's only 5 class R licenses in Australia, police, military, and a few contractors.

Be very careful.

If the projectile was genuinely a potato, I can't even...

Imagine telling the new parents the day he was born.

Your bundle of joy, which you will invest so much time, love, effort and money to raise into a fine young man, will be killed by a flying vegetable.

I still can't fathom how so many people believe in the existence of a supernatural entity that watches over them, and that their life has some kind of fundamental significance.

Yes, mixing spudfiles and philosophy, I should be working :D
