homemade mini co2 tanks.

all this talk about using those mini co2 tanks that you buy for filling a chamber has got me thinking. you could just get a small piece of metal pipe with a tire filling valve on one side and a threaded cap on the other. drop in a little chunk of dry ice, close the cap, and set it somewhere safe for a few hours to let the dry ice turn into co2 gas. unless you like filled the pipe to the top with dry ice it shouldnt explode while pressurizing itself, and if it did it wouldnt be near you while it exploded. you could put it in a metal container while its pressurizing for safety.

if you made five or six of these you could always have a portable air source for relatively small chambers. this is an alternative to buying the small co2 cartriges. if you used it enough you would save money.

if you put a pop up valve on it no matter what it wont explode or be at pressures to high for your gun.

true true. i was thinking along the lines of getting the metal tank up to like 400 psi or so so you could make it small and portable and still be able to fill a medium tank to like 80 psi

I think you can rent dry ice machines from tool hire places, so you could make loads of them then keep them.

You may be able to rent a dry ice machine but you will need liquid CO2 to put into the machine to make Dry Ice.

you can buy it at super markets...or icecream suppliers.
and while your at it put water and dry ice in a water bottle and close it (dont forget to retreat)

yes that was the idea. how much pressure could steel pipe take? and how much pressure could you get it to with dry ice? because the higher the better. if you could get something to like 800 psi you could fill a chamber to 80 psi that is ten times the size!

schedule 40 steel? didnt know those had scedules. thanks for the table though. that would be so cool to get some 1 inch up to 3000 psi. it would make pneumatics really portable. so you could make a chamber with 30 times the volume and get it to 100 psi with that. pretty cool. at that pressure would the co2 liquify? not that it matters im just wondering.

ok at 3000 psi the real question is where you going to get a valve that can handle that pressure. i dont mean on the gun but on the tank.
