Where to fire my launchers?

As my launchers get bigger, faster, and generally more powerful, I have gotten to the point where I am afraid to really push most of them indoors which was the only place I could chrono them using SoftChrono and my desktop PC.

I have just ordered a Chrony which will allow me to test anywhere. I have test fired my launchers outdoors in a number of locations, but am a bit concerned about setting up the chrony and attracting too much attention in what are somewhat questionable locations. Anyone have suggestions of where to set up and test fire my cannons? I am just North of Baltimore, MD if anyone has specific locations near there in mind. I would love to find somewhere close to home, but am willing to travel a ways for overnight destinations especially if there is hiking, mountain biking, trout fishing, or other fun activities nearby.

Other than specific locations, I'd also be interested in general ideas for finding places that will not bring the law or irate villagers with torches and pitch forks down on me.

You could take some steps towards noise mitigation if it as a concern, that and watching your backstop to make sure you don't accidentally bombard the neighbouring town with farm produce and you should be fine in a remote area.

It really depends; I'd try to find somewhere as remote as possible, but that doesn't always work out. Best case scenario, you could find someone with a good property for shooting and try to get permission from them. Having a friend on the outskirts would possibly work.

Last Friday I had a visit from local police when my friends and I were shooting golf balls out into dead empty grass fields, far away from anything that could actually be damaged. Luckily I managed to stash the golf balls when I saw the lights. The cops got out, patted us down against car, etc, and ended up taking the plinker and the bike pump (I know, really?). They said it's illegal and classified as a less-than-lethal weapon, along the lines of a bean bag shotgun, and said we would usually get hit with a misdemeanor or even a felony, but let us off pretty easy since they could tell we were just some university students having relatively safe fun. They went so far as to tell us they have fun with spudguns "back home" but they had to take it anyway.
Kind of a wake up call; apparently shooting a low pressure, quiet, midsize pneumatic out in the middle of nowhere can still get you in some trouble.

That being said, I hope you have better luck than I do!

Noname, your biggest problem is living in Commiefornia. Bite a right angle into a pop tart at school and the cops are called, but suggest that you can't choose a random "gender" and you're burnt at the stake.

My advice, move a little bit east to one of the free states, like Arizona (not that I can talk, still being an Australian and all.)
