should this topic be in here or in another thread?i dunno anyway..

can you make a homemade butterfly valve?then you could have like a 3"valve with nothing stopping flow apart from 1cm thick piece of pvc.
could you use something else other then pvc pipe as the flap that turns?
i was thinking a metal lid to this chocolate milk powder stuff ive got but not sure how much pressure it would hold.

i dont know if this would work so dont go all ape on me saying its the worst idea youve heard. :D

edit:i just thought of using a 2" end cap like some piston valves use i believe.

Just keep in mind that with a 3" valve @ 100psi there will be 471 pounds of force on the plate of your valve.

Well building a homemade butterfly valve WOULD be difficult... so why not just make a piston valve with 3" porting? It would open faster (butterfly valves open fairly slowly [not quite as slow as ball valves])

i live in New Zealand, for comparing price a piece of pipe equivilant to sch40 3"dia 3' long is $60NZD here and 1NZD=0.61USD.
to build a piston would cost alot of money for me as fittings bigger then 3" cost like $60pressure rated, as you need a 3" or 4"tee in most pistons as i remember

edit:no point shipping supplies to NZ cost too much.ive looked at many piston valves for spudguns on this site over a month or two but i dont know which valve is easy to build, works well(has been tested prefably not a draft that hasn't been made)and a piston for my needs, e.g few parts,no machining, good flow for a GB cannon with a 4"dia 4' chamber.

i got a pieve of 4" pipe 4.6metres long and rated up to 173psi for $15NZD :D and my GB barrel for free from the same guy :D my 100mm adapter end cap thing cost me $40NZD on my combustion so thats how expensive shit is here
