Would wrapping the chamber in electrical tape help at all if it were to burst?

p.s. - for pneumatics

It might slow the shrapnel down, but i dont think it would be worth trying. If a chamber bursts and you are near it, you will be hurt no matter what you do.

I think if it did grenade the sharp pvc shards would cut right though it...Since i've read that duct tape and such wont work.

P.S. You might also wana try some fine mesh chicken wire?

u know if u used alot of duck tape it probaly wont explode. but i mean a lot

no pvc has huge saftey margins on the pipe so if you feel the need to put 240 psi in your chamber do you think a really thin layer of tape will do anything for you?

Ok i know pimp or blb are going to say anything something about the saftey margins.

Duct tape will not work, no matter HOW many layers you put on. Maybe if you put literally hundreds of layers on, but why not just spend that money on SCH 80 pipe or steel? Electrical tape is even worse. Chicken wire may do a tiny bit of protection; not sure though.

Someone did a test with this. I would like to see how chain mail works as a shapnel-defense thing

I told my friend once to use one of my guns at 80 psi max, just for safety, even though the 3/4" pipe was rated to 480. He put it to 140 and had the gun between his legs when it exploded and sent shrapnel all over my basement. I was 10 feet away and nothing hit me but he got a piece in the inside of his thigh. 2 or 3 inches up and he'd be VERY sorry he didn't listen to me. So you might not get hurt

... if it was rated to 480 psi no way it exploded at 140... unless it was in like dry ice than your saying something wrong here story wise. If it was in his legs and grenades, bs it just hit one piece in him.

I suggest using Garden wire. Wrap the gun with it, and then wrap it in multiple layers of duct tape

PM him. Name's rose on this forum. And yes, it's true. You really try to find ways to annoy me don't you?

ProfessorAmadeus, BLB's on vacation, so here I am!

Not going to say much on safety margins, other then they are HUGE! Just get pipe that is rated above the intended pressure, rather then making your launcher look as if it was left un-finished for stuccoing. Of course a extreme excess of tape might help with increasing burst pressures. I cant see it being that much per volume. Heck just use flippin' sch 80 PVC or metal piping if your one of those paranoid people that lives in a bunker. Walking outside leaves you vulnerable to being struck with a asteroid.

Noname, as others have stated, there is a missing part to this story. Not saying your retaining information, but possibly you just dont know the existence of such info. Heck some pop bottles dont even explode at that pressure.

Dom, what did you base your suggestion off of? Quite frankly the all-to-handy duct tape isnt that handy when it comes to contain a combustion.

Errr, just saw rmich732's suggestion to use sch 80 plastic or metal piping. Sorry for the echo.

Quite simply there is easier ways to go about making sure your launcher does not explode.

I know this would weaken the barrel, but to what extent would it if you just cut thin lines so that instead of it shattering it would just like blow apart on one side or into 2 pieces?

Tape will not do anything in my opinion, but maybe just maybe i thought that if i wraped the camber in some fiberglass repair sheets that i have for my surf board (sheets of fibergrass with a resin that is added), of fourse that you would have to buy alot of it and waste alot of money but it just might work. If you know how hard suf board sufaces you know what im talking about, but if the barrel explodes then there will be more shrapnel to remove from your body.

why would your barrel ever explode anyways? i dont think i have ever heard of a barrel exploding before. its very unlikely to happen.

and chubster, did you already make a gun that your worried about?
