Has anyone played the game metal gear solid series, there was a large bipedal tank, which had a rail gun that fired nuclear warheads. The reason behind this is because nuclear missiles are detected bye their rocket burning. The idea was you fired the nuke up into the atmosphere and it put itself on target on the way down making an undetectable nuclear weapon. Cool game

And since anything conducts electricity if the voltage is high enough, the materiel doesnt matter at all

exactly. at the exception that at a certain point, electricity cause damage to the structure of the projectile, making it split and giving the impression it was conducting.

hey there !!! some news!!!
I've bought six cheap cameras, two steel rails, bolts and nuts, and two interuptors.
I charge the capacitor bank at 1800 V in about 45 seconds.
I put a piece of graphite and aluminium around it, then i charge the whole system from a remote charging device (long lentgh of wires) then i activate the second interuptor to open the circuit!
The result is amasing for such a small device!!
The plasma thing doesn't show at all times, but sometimes it makes really cool effect when it's dark!
It's not very powerful, i don't have a chronograph but i can estimate the velocity with a 0.10 g projectile to be around the 200 fps.
the very negative part of it, is that after three shots, the rails show some burn traces. but, i unscrewed it all and passed a little tissue, the traces weren't there anymore, but i could see clearly that the metal it self was a bit eroded.
Still, a very funny project and that amazed my parents!
I'll post a few pics when i'll find the time!! bye!

Oh I almost forgot, i put the rails with a space between both of 6mm , their 20cm long, and blocked by a very solid and wide piece of wood. I might get something harder...

Don't buy disposable camera's, get them free. If you go to a photo processing store and say do you have any used disposable cameras, they'll just give you them. They may not like the term "railgun" so call it a linear acelleration device, or just make up another reason. In my experience most people don't realise the dagerous potential, and will happily give you loads

hey thx for the advise, i might get more capacitors to make it more powerful. and perhaps have a more flashing muzzle flash.
