Your neighbors should be checked for paranoia.
I remember the first time I shot a potato from my big gun. I was used to the recoil with wooden disks, but a potato is substantially heavier. I didn't expect it and it nearly knocked me over. My neighbor came out, no lie, and yelled "What the hell do you think you're doing boy?"

my chamber is 4'' by 18'' and 3'' by 8'' and your talking loud. my ears ring for about 30 secs. after each shot. i use a 1.5'' by 48'' barrel. as for shooting it the first time i would expect the worst that could happen just to be on the safe side seeing as how it was built by someone you dont know. the first time i shoot my gun that i got pics of in the album it recoiled into my face cause i wasnt paying attention. my girlfriend was complaining about the bugs and boooooommmmmm right into my face.

so wait that is a pretty small gun compared to mine... i got a 2 inch by 5 feet barrell the gun itself is 6.5 feet long so wat would that sound like? since i never fired it. im currently finding how to fix it. check my other post. i put it on a upsidedown picnic bench would it break that?

i'd like to ask soimething: well, i've built some home made guns you know, like fireworks powder gun (really powerfull===> 1400fps with 15grams) and really noisy, i'd add it makes a lot of recoil, the first time i almost left it. and i also have a pneumatic airgun, in PVC. i does make some noise, but not a a medium cracker, and it does a bit of recoil, marbles go 400m + at 35° so i guess it's not bad, but the one i'm constructing is a golf ball barrel. the thing i wanted to know is: if a combustion gun, does that noise, why isn't it at least as powerful as a gun?

the noise has little to do with the power, something coming out of a larger barrel and a larger chamber is going to sound louder, your pneumatic will be more powerful than a combustion because of the pressure that builds up.
