They can hurt if you do it right. Do you remember that burn I had on the back of my hand by any chance? I still see the scars. High current sparkers can hurt and show effects long afterwards.

BBQ sparkers are nothing though. I recall the number 65kV for them, not 30k. Not that voltage really matters... Be worried about current.

Some people call us crazy but my friends and i like to shock each other for fun with our stun guns, you just get used to it after a while. We also have contests to see who can shock themself in the leg for the longest time  , but BBq igniters are nothing, I hardly even feel them now, its just fun to make my fingers twitch or my shoulder from shocking right on the neck.

The BBQ igniters gain more voltage the newer they come, the older ones from about ten years ago have only about 15k volts but the new ones can get up to 65k volts like sgort said.

My friends like to get shocked by the electric fence at the horse farm near my house. I personally don't like getting shocked but they say it feels good. They said it feels good on you nipples too. :?

Hmm, my favorite is putting a bolt in a small engine during small gas engines class.
You touch teh bolt they pull the starter cord.
Shocks from camera flash circuits are incredible - I've had a few, and they aren't anything I'd actively seek, but they aren't really painful. It's a bit like pins and needles.
Yeah, I picked one up by the circut board and dropped it on the floor because I was so surprised. I touched it with my pliers and the flash went off in my face. Oh yeah, once I was plugging in my nieghbor's Christmas lights, and the was about halfway in when my pinky touched one of the prongs  I'm serious, you can feel the waves of electricity...don't try it, very dangerous.

that is because the current from those is much higher than a piezo-ceramic diode electric spark generator (such as a piezo from a long nosed lighter, or a BBQ ignitor). Camera flash circuits and stun guns use a capacitive discharge from a battery, they use an array of circuits and a capacitor (and an ignition coil if its a stun gun). BBQ ignitors or "piezos" from long nosed lighters use a ceramic diode that emits low current voltage when pressure is applied to the surface of the diode.

How far could you make a modern BBQ lighter jump?
(not a fixed igniter, a hand held lighter with automatic spark)

This type of thing?
