Ive Never Made A Spud Cannon Before And I Havent Heard Of Them Until I Came Across This Website. Im Looking To Make One But Whats Everything That I Will Need To Make My 1st One, And Which Cannons Are The Easiest To Make. I Wanna Use Co2 Since I Play Paintball And I Already Have All Of The Things For That. Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated! :?:

so you're looking into making a pneumatic as your first cannon? most people make combustions, but that can get discouraging if you cant get the right fuel mixture. good luck to you, and be safe

you cant just use co2 directly, as it will blow up your chamber, you need a regulator to get the pressure to a managable level (about 100 psi max) unless you're knowledgable of pressure regulators and such you might want to stick with an air compressor.

as for your first cannon, i would suggest using a 2" chamber (2" since most hardware stores dont have pressure rated parts) about 36" long, a 1" sprinkler valve (modded or not, check out the how to section of the site for how to mod a sprinkler valve) and about a 1.5" barrel

as for parts you need to use your imagination for how you want this to be built before you can buy your parts, over under style or inline? how long?

you need to use fittings labeled NSF-PW ONLY NSF-DWV is not pressure rated and can possibly fail in a pneumatic, the pipe you use needs to have a pressure rating on it XXX -psi (note: though a piece of pipe might be rated for 280 psi, that is water pressure, not air pressure, air pressure has alot more force and if the pipe blows it will grenade as sharp shrapnel, and pvc doesnt show up in X-rays...)

also dont shoot it at people, even though it has less pressure than a paintball gun it is more powerful than one and can and will severly injure, or kill someone if they're hit with something shot out of one, i've been hit by a 1/2" bolt out of my copper cannon, thank god it was a ricochet or i'd be missing my thumb, even still it throbbed and was purple for a few weeks

Which Would Work Better

If I had a combustion style cannon with a propane line runnin from the tank to the chamber and i let the propane run for 2 secs or i left the propane runnin when i hit ignite?

r u saying leaving the propane tank going into the chamber wial u ignite it?? if so , U R INSANE!!! if it does ignite and the flame goes back into the tank, good bye to u. but as far as just 2 seconds idk.

and spud, r u saying he should have a 2in chaber and a 1.5in barrel, shouldnt it be a smaller barrel for more power or instead of a smaller barrel a bigger chamber??

yeh i didnt think of that, thanks before i tried it. I got this idea tho earlier, what if i made like a box of death. Get like a metal box enclosed on all 4 sides drill a hole (the size of the ignitor) in it put a lil gas in there then attach the ignitor going into the box in that hole after u fuel the box. then throw the box and make sure the ignitor hits something (concrete, tree, house...). Explosion in a box! That Would Be Awesome, but would it work?

if the fuel was in a vapor form it would prolly work, but i bet it would just blow the igniter out of its hole or blow the box up, i wouldnt try it if i was u

ok, you're asking for death fooling around with explosions you dont know how to deal with, i might be a little apprehensive because someone in my area is missing 2 fingers and the tips of the other 8 because she fooled with a 1/4 stick, but still it needs to be addressed, you dont know how it'll work, anything could happen, it could go off while you're filling it, unless you know what you're doing very well i wouldnt do it

There is no way that that is possible. The propane is pessurized so the flame won't be moving back. It'll be similar to a flamethrower effect. Even if it did make it into the tank, it would be choked because of the lack of air to fuel the flame.

ok, sry, its still not a good idea even if the tank wont explode
