Launch younger siblings with it, but call the ambulance first.

And I don't need to call myself a "model forum citizen". Gort's already done that for me. But then again, I spend the the rest of my time writing posts that don't finish properly, much like th

That is... projectile in one end, bag of water (or similar) in the other, fuel-air mixture in the middle.

Solves two major problems at once: fittings (because you don't need 'em) and recoil (because there is... almost none).

(incidentaly, sch 40 14" pipe has .437" walls... and is rated to 130 psi.)

Can you elaborate? I googled for "unembelished tube pattern recoilless cannon" and found nothing except for this topic!

Reason I'm interested is I've got an interesting chunk of pipe that I'm trying to find a use for.

I had to laugh at that one

Ive made up my mind and (probably around july) Im going to try to make something like DR's basketball combustion cannon. Now all I need to do is find a suitible 14" projectile (I dont have any siblings unfortunalty).
I do however have an agitator from an old washer that fits perfectly, so I guess agitator= nosecone.

meh.. The only bowling ball I have is a little over 8" diameter. The pipe is 14 so Id have to stuff a hell of a lot of towels in it to launch a bowling ball.

Grow a giant potato!

I know Gort fired 5 gallon buckets with a little around the top trimmed off from his 12" launcher, so perhaps you could something like that?

I guess you could shoot gorts 12 inch cannon out of it, Then shoot DR's 8 inch cannout out of that, Then shoot gorts 6" gun out of that, Then shoot a 4" gun out of that, Then a 3", a 2", 1" all the way down to .2".

That would be one amazing explosion when they all blew...

Well, having seen Sgort's 12" diameter cannon in action, I must tell you it is rather impressive. I'm the one in the videos that yells "Oh crap" when the random debret is falling at me. Don't worry about me, though, I came out of the situation unscaved and ready for more. You should do a metered propane combustion, as I am sure it will hold up to the pressure, as long as you dont use black powder or anything..... just make a 1 1/2" pvc meter pipe, put 4 screws in the middle of the pipe to keep the ammo from going all the way down in the pipe (or wherever you want to seperate the chamber from the barrel), and make a big, double layered wooden plug and liquid nails and screws will hold it in. When you fire it, test fire it straight up so that if anything gives it will be the plug, not the pipe splintering and killing you :D . If it doesnt the first or second time, it probably will not ever explode. To ignite it, I would use probably a grill ignitor (only kidding) A stun gun circuit, or spark strip.

Good luck, and don't die.

LMAO!!! what a friend!!! mdr; still, i suggest you cut it by quarter of it's actual length, make a good end cap, heat the other end and reduce it, glue a 6" pipe in, an make is a big-ass combustion.
Call it "teh bigmuthafuka" with black paint and red fading to yellow flames......lol
:o :o

Nah, you really don't need to reduce this size of a cannon, unless you want to launch 2 liter bottles a mile or so. I can't imagine anyone having the space for that. The unreduced combustion is much safer, and still a TON of fun, and laughs. Especially shooting a water filled 5 gallon bucket. (It rains for about 30 seconds or more.)

I think someone allready mentioned it, but if you can, you could just bury it a foot or so down like they did on mythbusters.
