OK, thats the current south australian firearms legislation. I've emailed to confirm, but as far as i can tell, any sort of home-made firearm is a prescribed firearm. This is a good and a bad thing. If you don't have a licence and you are a south australia, you illegally posess and use your spudgun (combustion or pneumatic). However it appears you CAN get a licence for and register your spudgun. I'm awaiting an email from the relevant authorities on this.

Well the easyest spudgun to register would be a pneumatic-which is Class A,air-rifles BBguns etc.While with a combustion launcher being a Class E,tear gasg guns,flash bang grenades and fully automatic weapons...So unless you have a VERY good reason to aquire a Class E licence don't bother...

Very true mate. Combustion potato cannons are in the same weapon class as ROCKET LAUNCHERS! I'd know which one I'd want shot at me! Seems that the laws need a bit of tweaking eh?

All aussie laws need tweaking. The only manual transission cars in the family are V8's and I want one so bad.

Some of the laws are just out of control one of the most policed countries in the world.One of my friends has to get a new car for his car Licence because he owns a turbocharged car which he cant drive.

And combustion launchers in the same Class as Fully Auto weapons,mines,grenades its just fucking stupid.

Also a bit of info..In 1996 when there was a certain massacre the gun laws were tightened greatly the government had a list of 3,000,000 firearms which were going to be confiscated and destroyed and guess what happened,only 640,000 firearms were handed.So there are a shitload of firearms out there that the police cannot get back and in the following 12 months after the tightened gun laws armed robberies increased by 44%...Hmmmmm....And before 1996 every 2nd household had a gun now how many have a gun?Not many and they are not allowed for self protection either,they have screwed us to much and im waiting for the laws to change.Hope for hell that they are changed aswell.

I'm not an aussie, but i hope the gun laws stay put in america. they shouldn't be able to take our right to own guns and remove it from the bill of rights as it states "The right of the people to bear arms, shall not be infringed", but these liberals up in congress will try by any means possible to take that right away from us. If Australia had a bill of rights, ya'll might be able to own and operate firearms without such strict regulations. just a thought...

I am glad that Australia does not have the same gun laws as America. Australia has had only one spree to my knowledge and after this the gun laws were changed. America has had how many ? and the gun laws are still the same. How many have to die before something happens?

The bill of rights is almost as outdated as the bible it needs to be modernized. America does not need a militia any more. When was the last time a gun was used to defend America (by a civilian)?

America having the same gun laws as Australia is a good thing.

well, would you rather die from being stabbed kicked beaten and ripped apart slowly .... or would you rather be killed quickly by a gunshot... your choice. law abiding citizens will give up their guns, while the criminals don't (criminals don't abide by the laws) giving your average citizen more succeptable to crime.

If only we had that here...We need less tighter gun laws,I love guns personaly.But trying to own a gun here is impossible,Fucking Government..Thats whay i plan to move to QLD less resitrctive gun laws.

If the American Constitution or the bible get out dated I will personally raise hell. We are the average non-voters and we keep our own militia. And theres been about 5 sprees in modern history of Australia 1901-2007 but there was mass murder here before Australia was Australia (before 1901). Look into our history and you'll find of over 4 million abo's that were here to begin with there will be less than a 1/3 left from old killing sprees.

its not just killing sprees they should look at, its the single killings added together. killing sprees "should't" realy matter, its the idividual crimes that "should" matter most.

This is the official South Australian Police email reply that i recieved this morning:

I have your enquiry for response….
Spud guns are “prescribed firearms” by virtue of Regulation 8, being home made firearms. There are heavy penalties in the Firearms Act for possession of a prescribed firearm.
There is a specific Regulation covering possession of a prescribed firearm for film making etc under very tight, specified conditions.
Another Regulation makes it clear that even where such a licence is possessed, the firearm cannot be used to fire a projectile.
However you should be clear that any application by an individual for a licence to possess a prescribed firearm would not be granted.

SO, to some up, even if you were somehow able to get your applicaiton for a licence for spudgun (prescribed weapon) granted, you could not fire anything from it without commiting an offence. Posession without a licence. Offence.

Spud guns in South Australia, don't bother. It won't be worth the consequences if you get caught. Regard them as completely illegal.

On another note, regarding a recent massacre in the U.S., this is one of those times when i am glad we have the current laws we have. There are over 16000 students at Flinders University and even though the chance of something like this happening is even lower than in the US, having the gun laws we have makes it hard for anyone other than genuine crooks to obtain, say, a handgun.

Wikipedia says in SA they are legal
