There has been a bit of a grey area with spudguns in Australia and there legality so I decided to find out what is the real deal.I got the following information through Police and Fire Arms Registry.

NSW:

Combustion Launchers,Illegal unless registered.Class E Firearm.

Pneumatic Launchers,Illegal unless registered.Class A Firearm.

QLD:

Combustion Launchers,Illegal unless registered.Class E Firearm.

Pneumatic Launchers,Illegal unless registered.Class A Firearm.

VIC:

Combustion Launchers,Illegal unless registered.Class E Firearm.

Pneumatic Launchers,Illegal unless registered.Class A Firearm.

WA:

Combustion Launchers,Illegal unless registered.Class E Firearm

Pneumatic Launchers,Legal to own and use,but can be confiscated and destroyed without reason or due cause by Police.

NT:-Information Needed.

SA:

Combustion Launchers,Illegal unless registered.Class E Firearm.

Pneumatic Launchers,Illegal unless registered.Class A Firearm.

ACT:-Information Needed.

Note

Legal actions for use and ownership of spudguns in certain states usually results in confiscation and no further legal actions.Although further legal actions can be taken with good reasoning.

Class A-Firearms such as Air Rifles,BB Guns, Paintball Markers Etc.

Class E-Firearms such as Teargas,Grenade Launchers,Mines,Fully Automatic Weapons Etc.Extremely hard acquire to licence.Even if it is acquired no projectile may be fired/discharged from the weapon.

Home made Firearms are not eligible for registration

What about SA? I would be assuming they are both illegal here, we have strict laws.

Wow, what a downer from the land down under. Sorry to hear that guys.

That's interesting that you can register your cannon; I can totally see how that falls under the air rifle/PB gun category.

There's a but required to pass certain testing/regulations. clause though, which could be quite limiting - for example in the UK, if it's capable of producing more than 12 ft/lbs of muzzle energy (extremely easy for most lreasonably sized cannon) it qualifies as a firearm, and to be allowed to legally own it you need a very good reason, for which "blasting holes in stuff" hardly qualifies.

Integral, when you find out what was said on the discussion let me know and hopefully they would of stated laws in other states i did not mention.

Although there some light. The Government have been throwing words around and is under pressure to change the laws on Paintball guns and Airsoft guns,so there could be a good change coming our way!Hopefully.

A bit strange considering pneumatics are generally more powerful and dangerous (From the end of the muzzle)

The attitude the government takes towards anything that burns is quite over the top: a group of teenagers were charged and fined for being in possession of beer bottles full of sparkler flint.

oh yer good time man they go off! but this is what happens when you take the "safe" activities away eg: paintball/arisoft which wen ya think about it would occupy most of the trouble makers that do this stuff like beer bottles full of sparkler flint.

but as i quoted b4
