Silencer/Muffler
I had A go at making a silencer/muffler for my gun.
its works and definitely takes the sharp ear piercing crack of the gun upn firing.

Nice! That looks really awesome, if it was black it would be hard to tell the difference between a proper one.
I've made one also, they do make a huge difference, I love the sound they make.

Does it really work that well? Can you do a with/without video?

If you want to make a VERY effective silencer why not take the approach used on gun silencers. The silencers are many times the volume of the barrel(about 20x) and have broken sections such as 3 sections on with 10x the volume then one with 7xi then another with 3x the volume any bet you will notice a change in the noise with that but it would be about as big as the chamber on a gun....Not very practical.
Get up the video or sound recording because it sure does look sweet and even better if it has performance to match.

That's why I'm questioning the true effectiveness of this particular model (no offence to chaos' handiwork, of course) because as far as silencers go, there is no substitute for cubic capacity and this one seems a bit limited.rna_duelers wrote:If you want to make a VERY effective silencer why not take the approach used on gun silencers.

thats so tru, this one that i have built is realy fo taking the ear piercing crack of it at higher pressures. but i might try a nice big versionjackssmirkingrevenge wrote:That's why I'm questioning the true effectiveness of this particular model (no offence to chaos' handiwork, of course) because as far as silencers go, there is no substitute for cubic capacity and this one seems a bit limited.rna_duelers wrote:If you want to make a VERY effective silencer why not take the approach used on gun silencers.
soz cant do vids or anything tonight. ill get them asap
I made a simple sound moderator for my cannon.
Muffling the cannon blast would need a smegging huge bottle sized thing with a lot of cotton wool/wire wool/stuff.
So all it actually does is stop the CRACK! of firing, instead I get a duller THUMP! which still echos off buildings but it doesn't sound so much like a firearm.
Made of a cardboard tube about 1.5' long with a pattern of small holes and knife slits in it. Slides over the barrel tip.
So the air blast gets weakened and dissipated by the vented tube before it finally gets out.
First few shots had the very amusing effect of sending puffs of cardboard fibres from every single hole and slit in the tube ^_^

thats the same as what i get, just a "thump" no crack that makes you deff for a few hoursHotwired wrote:I made a simple sound moderator for my cannon.

That's a good result when you're trying to suppress a supersonic firearm, but when the device in question is powered by air and firing projectiles at well below the speed of sound, you should be aiming for something akin to a flatulent mousechaos wrote:thats the same as what i get, just a "thump" no crack that makes you deff for a few hours

I know some very noisy mice
These aren't air rifles that fire pellets using a a couple of cubic mm of 3000psi air.
Those have silencers that can do that but ours have very large volumes of air which is at an inefficient pressure. It would take a lot to muffle it all to a relatively quiet level.

With some careful design and an appropriate allocation of volume, there's no reason why spudgun silencers can't be effective.

yer true when it comes to larger calibers silencers just lose there practicality eg: Barret m82 .50bmg would need a quite large silencer to capture most of the gases created from the round and thus preventing it being in-effective with a small silencer.
our airguns are much similar in that we would need a large "un-practical" suppressor to make it sound as you said like "a flatulent mouse"lol
which would either piss me off to carry a 3ft length of stainless pipe across the road and up the hill just to shoot.
but now as i think about it i make the suppressor to not have to go away from the house???
