As soon as i turn 18 i'm buying a spas 12 shotgun, when i'm 21 i'm buying a colt 45 and maybe a 50 cal desert eagle (more for fun then actual protection). Until then though i'm sticking to my baseball bat and replica paintball shotgun loaded with solid rubber balls. I've stopped and incapacitated a 200 pound guy with it.

Killjoy,the flechete rounds sound pretty nasty to me.Being as how I have seen flechetes the idea of getting stabbed by 20 mini steel arrows just isn't fun.

You are right about energy. A 130 grain, (8.4 grams), .38 round moving at 810 fps, (246.9 m/s), is about 256 Joules of energy. A 20mm steel bearing, (I calculated it to be around 33.6 grams if it is 316 stainless steel), going around 200 m/s, is around 672 Joules.

Back on topic: I'm suprised that you actually thought about the law MrCrowley, personally I would be all excited and taken aim. What are the chances in a quite suburb that a robber (hostile) comes running down your driveway when you have your beloved spudgun charged and loaded at the ready...

It's not quite as fast as 200 m/s - it's closer to 150, but that's still a good 50% more energy than the .38 special.
And if the the Taylor stopping power equation is anything to go by, then the high weight and bore size make it pretty nasty (about 24 at a quick estimate).

Of course, a spudgun wouldn't stand up to a .38 special at range, or for rate of fire, but for each single hit, I'd bet the spudgun would do more.
Maybe sometime I'll experiment with water boxes and stuff to see what might really happen...

Disclaimer: I do not promote shooting people with spudguns - or anything dangerous for that matter.

I might have to look at some more "ballistics gel" to test a marble gun on. It's just store-bought gelatin, but it still does fairly well. Last time I made it I shot it once with a pellet gun just to test function and then chunked the remainder around at school the next day. Just a hint, you don't want to smell gelatin after it's sat in the sun all day.

Well, gelatin is an animal byproduct.Paintball shells are made out of it.They really start to stinking in the summer.Oh, and the Chinese use soap blocks to test there ballistics.I've seen bullets do a whole lot more damage in soap than they do gelatin

funny thing is if someone does that i've got my front driveway rigged with a couple of homemade anti riot BB dishargers.They make people roll on the ground at 25 feet.(don't ask me how i know. ) so they'd probably just run.

I also have on in my room and i also keep a swiss army knife hunter model and my dad's old Stilleto fom when he was a commando.Isn't it funny most people on this forum have built or they have defenses for their houses?
