I use something called "ozone safe model air brush propellant".
I believe its tomous (or something that starts with a "t"...) but I read the can and its propane with odor of mustard oil... so is it like hairspray or propane?

Anyway, it's very potent; a small amount can fire my behemoth of a spud gun. (2'x4" chamber) It's alot of bang for your buck; it's cheap and lasts a long time - I've had mine since Christmas and only ran out about 3 days ago.

ps: It doesn't condense, and it comes in a light blue can.

(post edited by BoilingLeadBath - it was barely understandable, so I cleaned up the sentence structure, divided it into paragraphs, and checked your spelling. View this as a service... I saved you from having your posterior flamed.)

Rozby, most propane has an odor added to it. This is a safety feature - it informs people that there is propane in the air (which would pose a fire/suffocation hazard).

I am new to all this stuff, and am doing a little research before making a full size spud gun. I made a pill bottle one, and i've been using regular pump gas to power it, i just put it in a re-usable aerosol type can and spray in just a little but so it vaporizes. It works nicely in the pill bottle, but as I've been reading, gas will dissolve the epoxy in pvc? However, starter fluid wont? I thought starter fluid was more caustic than gas?

"epoxy in PVC" "caustic than gas"
There is no epoxy in PVC, and PVC resin (what PVC pipe is made of) isn't soluable in gasoline.

(Most) Solvents aren't caustic. Furthermore, you seem to have a misconception that there is an "ultimate solvent of doom"... there isn't. I'll laugh if you try to disolve sticker residue in water or sugar in paint thinner.

...it's perfectly safe to use gasoline in a spudgun.

Did some one think about nitro glicerine? With it all fuel to air ratios will be perfect(if the NG is more).

I thought that NitroGlycerine was the explosive stuff that detonated with the slightest touch. I definietly wouldn't want that in my spudgun!

"slightest touch"
Hardly. It's sensitive, but it's no primary... infact, one of the primary ways to dispose of NG is to burn it.

That being said, I can see no advantages over nitro cellulose... it's lower energy and gives you headaches.
And we probably shouldn't discuss this here, as a less-then-carefull person may put too much in their chamber, resulting in overpressure and a rupture. Plus, it's more expensive than propane and air.
