I for one think this is a stupid idea. It is better for people to search the spud wiki and view single topics at a time than view some watered-down sentence.
People learn more by reading an article then just one or two brief sentences. If they learn from a dictionary instead of an encyclopedia they will only have a shallow understanding of how different things work as opposed to a though understanding.

This is just an attempt at becoming lazy when learning about spudguns and I won't have it.

I think the wiki needs more fleshing out, there are quite a few very short articles, and indexing it would make it easier for newbies to use. If they find an unknown term, it would be much easier for them to find the article on the subject.

Actually, I feel quite like working on the wiki now... I'll go and start.

Double post I know, but I've tried to reshape the main page on the Wiki to make it a more informative and better "hub" for the wiki - take a look if you want.
Do some more work on it yourself as well!!!

I've marked a few pages as stubs, and I've reshaped some pages that are too specific (The "Miniature Spudguns" page for one, which also wasn't linked - it's now linked off the bottom of Combustion Cannons, which received a few spelling changes and adjustments itself)

I'll work on it more some later if I feel like it, but I think I've done quite a bit for now.
Indexing it will come another time.

I wonder if there aren't some tools that would help in creating a dictionary and/or better index to the Wiki.

Well, I'm working on it. The main page is mostly a rearrangement into an easier to read (That heavy paragraph has been broken into easier to read bullet points) and more introductory form.
Bit of extra basic information on the main page.

Not much, but it's a start.

I'm trawling through it again at the moment:
- New FAQ page to answer "Which is better" type questions that we see so often - currently just Combustion vs. Pneumatic).
- Small changes to Pneumatic Cannons page
- The compressors page has been expanded to have Pros/Cons of different varieties.
- Adding a Pneumatic Air sources page, to do the job the "Fuels" page does for combustion cannons.
- There are quite a few currently dead-ended links which I have added. I think more information is needed on Hand pumps and bottled gas, so I've put the appropriate links that will lead to the pages when they are done.

That's as far as I've got so far, but I think that with some effort, the wiki can be built into a much more useful resource for new spudders. Hopefully one that if we direct them at it will help reduce common questions.

@ Rag

I've added a bit to your FAQ, and started the ABS vs. PVC section. I will do some more tonight. Feel free to add/edit.

When I try to click on certain links in the Wiki that I have clicked on before (ie Stun Guns) it says "The action you have requested is limited to users in the group user." What is this all about

Now that you got way of topic with ass, cake and others how about we build an index......

I suck(inhale vigerously) at the computer thing so one of you smarter people put it together and we slackers can comment on it before it is deemed a good definison..

and now that I have read page 2 of my post

it is not a mater of research but a mater of knowing what the other person is trying to relay in their posts Go look at piston valves, yes they are made similar but why should a barrel seal be refereed to the same way you would refer to a chamber seal just because the both use a piston? The concept is the same but the action is different. It is like saying ball valve and meaning gate valve..two separate concepts same action..

Looks good, you've added good points. I've put in some appropriate internal links in amongst what you've put in.

If we can get a few people working on the wiki, it could become a major resource very fast.

Index page up, far from complete (only a few basic terms I could immediately think of the page names for) - start adding.

I'm a little concerned that it's a bit drastic, but I looked at the heavy block of text in it and thought that needed to be cut into bite-size chunks to make it more reader friendly.

I just took a step that should have been done a little while back. We keep complaining that newbies don't read the spud wiki, but if the information isn't there in a nice easy form, it's not going to get used.

Hopefully if I stir things up enough, we can get more people in on it and find the best way of doing things.

One thing I noticed on the wiki was that a lot of the links at the bottom of pages take the Common Fuels for Combustion Spudguns page for example, some of these links at the bottom going to chamber fans and meters and such should be linked back to the Wiki, not to burntlatke of sluka spudzooka thing. I agree the more information that we can get our hands on is great and there are other sources other than spudfiles, but i think we should strive to make this the most comprehensive self contained deal on the net.
