For the past hour, me and spudfarm have been making a list for different categories for the different achievement badges. Some are easy and some seem impossible. I have yet to make them, I wanted your (and PCGUY's) opinion before i go and start making badge icons for them.

The pic explains more if you don't quite understand...

By "shot 300 feet" you mean "hit an appropriately sized target at 300 feet", right? Because my $20 spray'n'pray combustion can achieve a range of over 300 feet. And we need one for 1km range, 2km range, etc... Not easy to complete, but provable with a large enough target.

And we also need one for "shot through 1" steel plate". Some of the projects on the go, not just mine, wouldn't face any trouble at all from a 1/2" plate.

Great except I dont think the distances would be much of a challenge.
My mini coax could probably shoot 300ft and the ISM(in sig) could easily pull out 600ft.
And both of those are reletively small cannons with no high pressure or anything special to them.
and you might want to get rid of the 50 psot bagde and add a 2000 or 3000 post badge as 50 just happens a bit to frequently.

But other than that it looks really good.
Cant wait till this actually happens(if it ever does).

STHORNE acctualy thought 600 feet was a long way:P
and we had the options in 12 badges so if there would be more of the even harder ones there would be the easier once removed and just DYI, me and killjoy that could do it with our hybrids..

we have to give a chance to pneumatic and combustion to.

got an idea..
row one could be the "easy" part and row two could be those like 1" steel..

ok... made the changes....

@bigbob,
the highest ill go is 100 for the first one because the new members have to have a chance at a badge to get them started.

people should be proud if they has the 1" on their profile :P

sthorne:Ok i guess its only fair
Im just saying that 50posts isnt really an acheivment but as i said before, your right its only fair

And the distances are better now
one question though, Can we base the ftlbs and range off ggdt? I know we cant base the velocity off it but...

This system is a really good idea.

These are my suggestions:
5,000 ft-lbs
10,000 ft-lbs
1/2 mile
1 mile (might be hard to confirm these)
Mach 1,2
Full auto
1/4, 1/2, 1" Steel plate. Maybe not even 1/4, as most people could probably punch through with a big enough combustion with a hardend dart round.

There should also be some type of aesthetics award for particularly beautiful/ergonomic entries.

Just my 2 cents.

In some way energy largely comes down to who has the most space for a large cannon. Of course, you do need the guts to put as much pressure in as you can to some extent.
It's a challenge building on that scale, no doubt, but there's no really deep secret how to get as much energy as possible.

Unless people start using higher pressures than even what is currently considered a "limit", and even then someone else can follow.
Once one person starts to use a pressure, then it will fast become commonplace, because others see it's possible.
Think back seven or eight months ago, people did use 300 psi - but it was rather rare, and then usually only on small cannons, on CO2 cannons, or as one-off hour long struggles with a shock pump.
"High pressure" seems to have caught on rather more after I had showed with HEAL that it was possible to do it with something larger than a thimble, and for just about every shot.
Although that is my slightly biased observation, and others might think otherwise, I think it's not too horrendously far from the truth to say that.
Actually, thinking about it, at one point, HEAL might just have been the largest (amateur) cannon out there to use 300 psi regularly - because I was fortunate enough to achieve 300 psi before DYI started his monopoly, at least based on post dates.
You'd hardly believe it now - but it is still reasonably big for a 300 psi cannon though.

Considering that more pressure can be followed, to lead on the energy front means a bigger cannon.

Title of Topic = Badge System

not to be rude but just thought i would point that out...

I do not see the need for post badges if we keep the post count system, especially if we keep the rank system, but if we lose both, then I say go for it.

Perhaps we could have rows corresponding to category?

Row | Badge Type
Row 0- Posts
Row 1- Penetrators
Row 2- High Energies
Row 3- Distances
Row 4- Mach Club
Row 5- Misc. Achievements
Row 6- Vinco Amplitudos

Also, I think we should kick it up a couple notches.
500 Posts, 1000 Posts, 1500 Posts, 2000 Posts, 3000 Posts, 5000 Posts
1/8" Steel, 1/4" Steel, 1/2" Steel, 3/4" Steel, 1" Steel, 1.5" Steel
5KJ, 7.5KJ, 10KJ, 15KJ, 25KJ, 35KJ
500ft, 1000ft, 1750ft, 2500ft, 3500ft, 5280ft
Mach .5, Mach .75, Mach 1, Mach 1.5, Mach 2, Mach 2.5
Power:Weight, 100+ RPM, 250+ RPM, Semi Auto, Full Auto, Chamber Displacement

The left end of the spectrum is easily obtained by anyone who cares to achieve it. (These could have less rigorous submission rules as well) The right side is what seems unachievable with most traditional methods.

For the misc row, P:W would be a "Hands Changing Badge", as only one person could have it at a time. (Except for ties I suppose) The ROF badges would be for large bores, I would say 1.5" or up. Chamber displacement would also be a hands changer.

Row 6 is the insurance row. If we ever need to add another badge to the right of the spectrum for any category, it would go here. (As to not screw up the 6 wide system)

Of course, I am just bouncing around ideas.
If 6 badges/category is excessive, we could do 3, and have 3 categories per row. Or we could just run em all together ant not have to worry about it.

It's a very well thought out idea and I would have done the same but I don't think it should be so complex for just starting out. And if there would be badge mods, they would be sweating there asses off awarding all of these different badges to different members. Thats why I limited it to 12 for now...then maybe we could set it up into multiple achievements per category..

I'll think about it though. I still have yet to hear back from PCGUY about the 12 achievements, so we'll see. thanks again

hmm it seems like a very nice system, but i don't know. good luck

From what I can tell about how this system would work, the number of badges is actually hardly even related to the amount of work required. (Other than the actual making of the badges :P )

Besides, my upping of the lowest post count badge to 500 instead of 50 will save many times the amount of work that my new badges would create :P

I increased it to 100 and think I will do your method.

so just one row of 6 but they are linked to a listing of all the achievements under that category... correct me if I'm wrong...

I'll get to work on the badge icons then.
Nice work BC!
