well i have decided to stop with this hobby and i don't think that i will come back.
the reason i stopped is because of the cost/power ratio of hybrids and pneumatics that i can get from the sources i have. that was what got me into solid propelled guns/cannons and bombs, heavier projectile going faster out of a cheaper/smaller barrel.

well this might be my last topic guys, C ya! :)

I'm not seeing an incompatibility between enjoying solid and gaseous propellant toys.

I have the motivation of a sloth when it comes to construction, unless someone dangles a carrot in front of me or brandishes a sharp stick behind me I'm not likely to make something.

I still lurk around here for amusement and in the hope that one day I might (get off my ass long enough to) put together a design nice enough to make an unusually large investment in to be a long term toy.

Still, if your motivation is to have ever more powerful devices then gas is an expensive way to do it.

Chasing the twinkly lights of the power fairy is expensive and eternal, much nicer designs can be made by limiting yourself on power and just doing a better job of making it an attractive and comfortable thing to use.

Join the Spudfiles lurkers club anyway even if you are ruling out making gas cannons :)

I second Hotwired comments. You're a veteran around here now and while you may feel you've topped out, that doesn't mean you can't occasionally offer guidance to others or share your insight on ideas that are kicked around here.

Power can be obtained easily with real firearms. I'm not sure that the spirit of spudding was meant to fully compete with that.

I'm sorry to hear that spudfarm, I really loved your work and liked a lot of your idea.

I don't think you'll ever fully be able to leave this hobby, but you should stick around just in case you decide to start back up and at least stay around to offer advice.

Still, I honor your leaving of this hobby with my 1000th post.

Take care and I hope you pop in occasionally

Edit:
bout time I finally cracked the 1000 limit!!

Yea i know what you mean, ive been at that 1000 barrier, this post actually tops it, lol. So i honor you Spudfarm with my 1001th post.

Away from the antics, i really think that this hobby is in your blood now, and you wont be able to get away from it. I just think that you will still reminisce on the good time with your creations and you will long for them.

But, thats just what i think. I hope that you visit here occasionally.
P.S. Hope you still use your hybrid!

All you need to do to stay interested in the hobby is to take it to the next level. Obviously it's gonna get boring if you stop challenging yourself. Figure out more powerful energy sources, engineer more efficient designs, i draw on napkins, post-its, everything to come out with something that will take it to a new and challenging level for me... that's what keeps it a hobby for me anyways... Hey,here's an idea, howbout figuring out a way to make a hydrogen powered combustion cannon that runs off of charged water, that'd be cheap and powerful i bet. Just something, anything to challenge your abilities and further progress the boundaries of this hobby. You shouldn't leave.

I beat both of you together by using my 2120th post!

I have to agree with Hotwired. There's no reason not to hang around - I've actually been doing much the same, drifting around, not building, but I'm slowly putting together 3vo now.

The velocity bug is a problem. I used to mess around with harder stuff than air, but personally, having switched I have to say I find air much more fun.
Although faster/more energetic projectiles are nice, I haven't got the space to go too far, and by using the less effective fuel of air, it opens interesting design possibilities - and also allows me to build nice meatly sized cannons that don't exceed the performance I can use.

There's a real appeal from designing air flow systems to me and even simply just using air to do it.... because if you say (for example) blackpowder, everyone expects performance
But say to someone: "Yeah, it runs on compressed air" - and they expect very little. It's fun to watch people's jaws drop as you absolutely vaporise the target with it. :P

And personally, I'm the kind of geek that finds steampunk appealing (I blame my mate Daniel for getting me into it), and copper spudguns - well, if you combined steampunk, a shotgun and anti-materiel rifle, what you got would look pretty much like that.

There are multiple ways to get the same results - I prefer entertaining over cost effective.
In fact, even to the point that if I could own a powder burner, if I could still do the same job with it... I'd really sooner prefer an air rifle.

EDIT: Mistypes
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

i will be around but it will be really little from now on i think, you guys are the thing that hooks me when i am about to quit and i am back in.

i don't think the hybrid will get much more action, i plan on making it able to shoot in a simple way but no designing on the stand part.

and i have sold my copper piston gun for $15 and that really gets the point to the line, i am sick and tired, that is it.

if i ever decide to stop messing around with "harder stuff" i will be back in :)

thanks to everyone ;)
