In the not so distant future, all of the community projects are going to be completely reorganized. This means that everything about it will be cleared out and this will be the only thread available and the purpose of this thread is to discuss ideas for CP. Any ideas pertaining to CP can be sent via PM and I can sort them out through there (and may ask for volunteers if I get swamped with ideas - any takers?).

I believe I have collected the ideas from this and the other threads, but if you have posted an idea, you may want to make sure I do have it.

Once I have received the idea via PM, I will organize the guidelines and send this back for approval.

Thank you.

Edit: So far, most of what I'm getting is still leaning towards Design 3 of the latest contest. They all have differences in description, but are essentially the same thing. Please contact me, Builder 3, as I have a few questions about this before I can make this a CP.

CP stands for "Community Project". I just got tired of saying the whole thing.

The Venom might as well be a 1x PVC cannon compared to this thing. This cannon would out class anything.

EDIT: I'm talking about supersonic baseballs dude.

Hi Guys! I've been pretty busy the last 4 months (...3 and a half month old son! :P And a new mortgage :? ) but I read this thread last night and was pretty darn enthused (like everyone here by the sounds!)

So in the spirit of idea sharing here are two quick ones to throw into the ideas "pool".

#1
It seems from my accidental stumbling upon combustion/hybrid threads (my new love is pneumatics) that clearing the burnt gasses out of the chamber and getting the new mix in and compressing/igniting it with a rapid cyclic rate is one of the things 'you guys' think about...

So the first thing that came to mind was the 4-stroke combustion engine with the exhaust header removed and replaced with a barrel of some kind.
So at 2000 RPM you've got yourself a 1000 cycles per minute compressed air buuurrrppp gun!

(...Of course, how to get a tennis ball to sit still in front of this 'burp' of air even 500 times in a minute is beyond my ability to imagine...)

Perhaps turn the crank by hand like a gatling gun? (With some mechanism to stop it breaking your arm off...)

The beauty of it is it's already 90% built and pressure rated and available in dumps at low cost the world over... And the thought of sending 1000 singed tennis balls downrange in less than a minute seems like the type of thing that could make me chuckle all day.

#2
For those familiar with the 'Girandoni' style air-gun, replace the bit that pushes the valve open with a cam.

(in the same way that a cam lifts the rocker in an engine)

This should allow (by grinding new cam shapes) adjustable valve opening time, length, and depth.

The additional spin off is that it lends itself to being motorised and, once again, you have yourself a buuuurrrrrpppp gun. :P

These might have done before, and/or they might not work for some blindingly obvious reason, but if anyone wants to play with them i'd love to live vicariously through everyone else's builds.

If your idea got deleted in one of the other two threads for the community project, please resubmit it to Hubb via PM. Thank you! :D

P.S. Please don't hold it against me, it really was the best way.

A hint to who's idea or what idea would be helpful here.

Simple solution - If you had an idea you wanted to be considered (or saw someone else's you'd like to see happen), and it's not listed in the other thread, resubmit it.
