I've been on a forum which had something similar, they can be fun, granted I was never the person handing them out and authenticating the claims.

Merit badges wouldn't be so bad. They could be used as optional pips or placed into signatures.

If this goes ahead I can make some.

Yeah, thats what i was saying. They can be optional and could either be "issued" to people or they could just be so that you can put them in your signature by yourself.

I actually really like the idea. They could be like medals by our user names or something like a soldiers decorations.

I was thinking some like...

Successful piston pneumatic

successful hybrid

advanced combustion

or some simpler ones like

Modded a sprinkler valve

or thougher ones like high pressure cannon ( over around 200 or300 psi.)

or certain sizes(large and small)

or fps (maybe small bore and large bore)

give your own ideas and tell me which ones you don't like...

Modded a sprinkler valve isn't the most impressive thing but each to their own..

Things such as muzzle energy, velocity, aesthetics, complexity, ghettoness, cleanliness and so on.

Yeah exactly... Let's make a list...

on a slightly differant note, I would like to see a forum dedicated to showcasing penetration/damage shots... And the HiSpeed video could be a a forum instead of just a thread as well...

To avoid competition we can make them less serious like:

Sawn off

over 50% epoxy by weight

ect.

I like it. To stop it getting competitive just avoid anything too serious or quantitative which has to be measured.
We need a semi-auto one and a special "flying brass" for Jack.

I personally love the idea. It's like my new found obsession with the X-box 360 game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II". In the game you get merit badges for doing certian things like calling in tactical nuclear strikes or dropping air drops on peoples' heads... Anyways, I have the motivation to try to collect them all. I suppose that would work here too.

Seems like a good idea to me... but make sure you make one for aesthetics and realism

I would like to see something like "bore at or over 6 inches". Once I'm done with my new project that is.
