It was pretty quiet over the weekend. Even JSR was not posting.(hot date?)
Yesterday I could not even get on due to "to many users".
If 10% of the unregistered from yesterday became members it probably would be busier.

According to the number of visitors we have never been so alive
Jokes apart, I hope it's just some temporary tech issues...

I used to check SF every day, I've sort of moved away from spudguns and air rifles in favor of other, more expensive hobbies (fly fishing for one is a biggie).

I just lack the time, money, and resources to continue any current projects I have. The projects I do have in mind are all small scale and would just be something to waste some time and build something fun. My time on Spudfiles correlates with the time I spend in the garage, although I still check it every day and try to keep active by at least posting in the off-topic section.

After awhile you get sick of typing out the same replies to the same questions. Time to let some of the less senior members take over that job; hope we've taught them well :D

Sometimes I do think I should help more, I've been there done that too. But sometimes the question itself shows that the asker is a lazy lunatic  , plus I'm lazy too so there are a lot of questions I could have helped but I didn't.

I used to visit almost every day. I'm down to about once a week to lurk around now. College has sucked up all available time.

It's like this: As we grow older priorities change, you 'new young adults' are figuring out that you now have bills to pay, (there's that priority thing). Schedules change, to put it simply, you have become adults.

Those of us who joined up as adults all ready know about scheduling and how to prioritize money, most of us...

The same old questions are changing. New members are reading and coming up with build plans before asking, most of the new members that are being active anyway.

At least that's what I've noticed when browsing through the forums lately. It's spring time here in my part of the world and work is getting busy so there's less Internet time, go figure.

SF dieing....NOT! Maybe Poland_Spuds liver L0L! :P

jrrdw makes some very valid points, most of which I agree with, aside from the implications following:

That's what being an adult means. You're not obliged to let go of what you feel passionate about, especially to conform with the standards of "maturity" defined by those who do not share your interests.

Follow your dreams, today before tomorrow, because otherwise one day you will come to your senses and realise that your time is almost over and you've squandered it on frivolity.

Things have changed. This same topic was posted a couple of years ago. I don't remember the members name (located on the west coast of US or Canada). That poster was flamed to the point of incineration. It's nice to see calm discussion.

Is it? I don't think so. And if perchance it were truly to be dying then it would be a shame. On all of us.

There are intrinsic, inherent flaws in the forum that can't be helped. Like for instance a noob going through thousands upon thousands messages trying to find info with regard to the specific build he has in mind (if in fact he has a design in mind rather than just an overwhelming urge to build his very own gun). For those that are not capable yet, it can be very disheartening. Yet, the truth is this cannot be helped because this is, in all honesty, a serious interest. Killing yourself or another is not that difficult when things go wrong. The point I make is that this forum could be much more friendly with regard to guidance yet it seems it cannot due to the inherent dangers which reside. This is actually a very technical engineering pursuit and if one were to excel, in truth, one would have to have a number of engineering degrees. Yet there are those who are unable to express themselves in their mother tongue and yet bring forth amazing cannons. Such is this forum and so it, I suppose, will continue. Walk the rocky road to success. Here you prove nothing to anyone but yourself. (Yet it is very cool to have your peers pat you on your back for your efforts).

If there was one thing I feel this forum needs is a section for tried and tested cannons with step by step build logs ( complete). For instance: so you want to build a hybrid? Well clearly you are not ready. Show us you can build a (form 1) pneumatic(from section a) in accordance with the detailed build spec in the pneumatic section for (cadets) and if you succeed you get to (corporal) status where you have access to the next stage of designs.

This way, as a forum, we could help the noob progress safely and at the same time develop a system which promotes the safe progression of this hobby.

I don't always log in. I can't watch any videos because I only have blackberry access but I am here everyday waiting for someone to provide me an insight to the next step of my design. I am a noob and I won't easily post a question because this is important to me and I don't want to experience being flamed for my ignorance. I honestly believe this is the reason many hang back.

Just my 2 cents worth.
