Wireless router radio-waves - harmful?

My dad wants to turn off the router at night because he thinks the radiowaves from the wireless is harmfull.
Now I find this VERY annoying because when the router is shut down, I havent got internet.

I think this is complete BS, since 8 other wireless networks of neighbours etc. are also flowing though.

Has anyone got something to proof hes wrong? (or proof that im wrong)

This sounds kinda like the big urban legend about cell phones and brain cancer.... That myth has been busted a thousand times.

There are much worse things bombarding our brains these days then wireless router signals...

offer to make him an tin foil pillow case. then explain to him that the nanobots google/nsa puts in the foil are impervious to router-waves. if he's a reasonable man he should go for it.

other than that listen to your father. the internet will be there in the morning.

wow they aren't harmful heck i dought that they even have enough energy to even have the slightest physical effect they just pass right on through without the slightest disturbance to anything probaly not even on a molecular scale.To have that type of energy to have any effect on you you would need one hell of a radio emitter or a microwave.What does your dad think its emitting beta/gamma rays?

I can absolutely guarantee you that the 2.4 GHz microwave radiation coming from a home wireless router is totally insignificant compared to all of the other wireless radiation going through your body right now.

AM and FM radio...
TV stations...
Cordless phones...
Cell phones... (rumored to be the worst)....
Microwave ovens....
Your neighbor's wifi's, bluetooth, and other wireless devices...

Believe me, the <500mw coming off your router is *nothing* compared to all the other radio waves going through you right this very moment.
Does your dad carry a cell phone? Having a cellphone in direct contact with your body for prolonged periods of time is much worse for you than being in the same room as a wireless router.

And we wonder why humans are getting cancer at a higher and higher rate these days? Damn....

Your PC's monitor is doing more harm to your body then the router ever will.

One day my mom comes in my room while I'm at the PC and tells me to stick out my right arm and do my best to keep it up. She put one hand on my wrist, and pushed my arm right down.. No matter how hard I strained I couldn't keep it up. She then put a magnet on my shoulder that she got from her chiropractor and told me to do it again. I actually held out for a few seconds while she pressed on my arm the second time with the magnet.

I'm guessing the the magnet created a magnetic field blocking all the harmful waves that were screwing up the signal my brain was giving my arm. If I do this test away from the computer my mom can hang on my arm like a monkey, in front of the computer I'm as helpless as a lil baby...

Not to offend you whatsoever, but until I see some actual scientific tests, I believe that crystal energy, magnetic therapy, etc... is purely placebo effect.

Don't get me wrong - I believe very much in naturalistic medicine - acupuncture, acupressure, chiropractic, herbal remedies, etc... these have been around for thousands of years and have firm-rooted history to prove their effectiveness - in fact, more so than most western medicine.

But "crystal energy" / magnetic energy as therapy/medicine, in my opinion, is a hoax. Lots of testing has been done on the effects, and with the exception of directly inducing a magnetic field on the brain, it has very little effect on humans.

What you're experiencing is probably partially placebo (because you believe it's going to work, it does) and partially because of where/how you were sitting, etc...
Also, from that angle it's quite easy to push someone's arm down - and maybe your mom (if only subconsciously) wasn't pushing as hard the second time.

Just my two cents. I don't mean to argue/flame/offend you.

I understand where your coming from Pete I didn't think it would make any difference either. Everyone knows that chiropractors don't believe in medication, if it can't be cured naturally o well. Or at least thats how my mom's chiropractor works..

For some reason I don't believe I was having a placebo effect as I had no idea what she was doing.. She never explained what she was going to do or what the magnet was for..

I'm not saying the magnet gave me superhuman strength, what I trying to say is that magnet acted as a microwave jammer of sorts..

I googled this page in which a guy is designing a microwave blocking building material to do away with cell phones in resturants, theaters, etc. His main ingredient is Ferrite..

I've done a similar thing, hold a cellphone with your arm stretched out, someone can easily push your arm down, swap the cellphone with a banana and you should be able to keep your arm up.

To the OP.... You say you have many wireless networks around your house... well there's your solution, use their wireless

they are all secured
And secondly: my pc is connected by cable! I dont even need the wireless, i just need the router wich ALSO gives wireless. (its a Linksys WRT54G)[/quote]

Well most routers have a function to turn off only the wireless. Usually it is called turning on the radio. This still allows Ethernet traffic though so you could use the internet.

Just start wearing a tinfoil hat when you're in the house, and advise the rest of your family to do so.

If any of your neighbors start asking questions or spreading rumors, you could just tell them you're from France. That always seems to work for me.
