If only they had used dwv fittings
In all seriousness... it's cool to see the white house playing host to science fair kids. I remember competing in the sci fair years ago... was the reason I was first allowed/given financial funding from my parents to make a "powerful" pneumatic gun... I made a model similar to the "x-inventions" P.A.C. 3 or 4 whichever had 2 solenoid valves. It launched a uniform projectile against a 2ft X 2ft mock-up of housing wall construction types. needless to say brick and cinder block held up much better than wood and vinyl siding!
It was my first science fair idea I came up without any help, and I got to compete at the next level up... but only got an honorable mention lol...

Loving this interest he's showing in science even though it really should be the bog standard for governments worldwide. His stance on science is enough for me to vote for him if I were a citizen.
'Tis a shame the kid didn't mention Spudfiles but I guess it just goes to show that we can have this monopoly on spudgun discussion on the internet yet a kid can still build a sprinkler valved pneumatic by reading a website created 15 years ago.

You can build your very own marshmallow cannon. The cannon has made the front page of Make!
http://makeprojects.com/Project/Extreme ... nnon/961/1
They didn't want anyone to get hurt so the last page of the instructions says to use a maximum pressure of 30 PSI.

They did. The cross is not sched 40. The sched 40 reducer does not fit all the way in.If only they had used dwv fittings

I'm certainly not Obama's biggest fan, but everyone gets things right once in a while. Positive press is nice.

If Obama gets anything right, it's his support for STEM fields. About time kids get acknowledgement for something other than brainlessly kicking around a ball.paaiyan wrote:I'm certainly not Obama's biggest fan, but everyone gets things right once in a while. Positive press is nice.
I liked his comment about the secret service not liking the idea. I just wish they had the sense to use the pump on the floor instead of the table. Probably too short of a hose.
I'm not sure what the purpose of that really squiggly tube on top is. Hopefully not airflow to the barrel.
I also don't think the press should have called it an "Invention", especially if it was built based on an instructable.

I'm more resentful of the fact that the people at MAKE chose to describe it as "extreme"... still, they're kids, you have to humour them I suppose.ramses wrote:I also don't think the press should have called it an "Invention", especially if it was built based on an instructable.
Yup.About time kids get acknowledgement for something other than brainlessly kicking around a ball.
Congratulations for being the best person to perform within a set of arbitrary rules. If it was decided (and it could be, nothing is fundamental) that footballs needed to be kicked at least 1000 yards, everyone would be shìt at the sport.

That had me smiling the whole time. Brave kid though, I would be incoherent trying to talk under all that pressure.
Edit:
At 2:31, this guy makes an appearance. I've mentioned him before on Spudfiles somewhere so a few of you will know what I'm talking about.

Haha awesome, it's great to see this kid get some recognition, even if it is straight out of MAKE.
