Easy stirrup pump

This is an easily constructed stirrup pump. It should be replicateable by most spudders out there. There is a pictorial on photobucket here; http://s245.photobucket.com/albums/gg76/gippeto_album/Check%20valve/Stirrup%20pump/ Cost to build: About 20.00 for the pump and check valve. Another 10.00 for ...

I didn't know you could even get an inline check like that. If I had known, I probably would have gone that route too. The only checks I have seen in the local stores were of the "swinging flap" variety. Thanks for raising the issue, this will simplify construction for those who can get one. It's a ...

Er, um ok... I'll add more detail to the instructions. This was not really so much a case of max psi. I have calculated that 300 psi will take a force of 154.5 pounds to achieve. If someone needs more pressure, they can either work harder :) or use a smaller diameter tube/piston. The premise for thi...

Thanks, it was a fun little project. Nova, we need to find you a lady friend! But thanks all the same. Pictorial on photobucket. Check valve and piston. http://s245.photobucket.com/albums/gg76/gippeto_album/Check%20valve/ I'll sit down and flush out the instructions this weekend. Comments with...

Added poll. Maniac, On the intake (up) stroke, the o-ring is pushed against the bottom washer. Air enters at the gap above the o-ring and follows two passages (filed into the threaded rod) past the nut. On the compression (down) stroke, air pressure pushes the o-ring against the upper washer and the...

Easy 200psi... er make that 400psi stirrup pump

I was thinking about a pump design the other day. Nothing revolutionary, just something that could be built by the average spudder with average tools. Something with (maybe) better efficiency than average. Since I could not stop thinking about it, I went ahead and built it. Here it is, ready for com...

You got it working then. Good for you!

You had said you couldn't get it past 5psi, what turned out to be the problem?

Nova,

Two thumbs up for you, good job!

Ragnarok,

Any ideas as to why that may be?

JSR,

When can we expect the "How to cast a Hammer-Piston" tutorial?

No, seriously...when? :)

Ok, I did not have much time earlier, I had to get to work. You are suggesting to pre-charge the storage tank to 120psi (through the check valve), and then supply the fridge compressor with 120psi inlet air. Thus using the fridge compressor as an electrically driven boost pump. I can think of no rea...

Ragnarok, are you thinking boost pump / pressure amplifier?

That is on the project list too. (next 2-3) Do a google search for "jetsam baby booster" they have a pdf with a tear down and parts list.

Very simple and similar to some of the stuff I work on. :D

Of course! The wife and I were out watching until she got too cold. Tried to get some pics but it's a new camera and way above my head as of yet.

Might have to resort to reading the (shudders a bit) instructions. :?

edited because "my head" is not "my ahead" :)

75 minutes to fill a 27 litre bottle to 250psi using one compressor or 38 minutes with two. This seems very reasonable, especially considering the cost. :)

Thanks.

This is more a case of "I have most of the stuff so I can put it together for coffee money." I will have a use for semi portable, high pressure air of course, but 250 psi is only a start. As testing progresses, I will be needing more....a whole lot more. :D Paint ball tanks are too small, they would...

I had a 20 pound propane bottle in mind. To get 4 hours, I calculated your chamber at 7.5 cu.in. , figured your approximate flow rate and went from there. I did not have a tank handy so I guessed at the dimensions. Should be reasonably close. I think 250 psi should be safe, but will have to hydro te...
