You mentioned that the washer was soldered in place, therefore I assumed it is steel and not forming an air tight seal.

If you have something that already works, to improve it you must look at the small things. :)

Yeah, I would leave the springs for someone that does not know better. :D

I'll try to help you, but you must list the tools you have access to. Could you access a lathe anywhere? Drill press? Hand drill? Metal files? Soldering torch? If you don't have access to tools like these, a viable piston might be cast from epoxy. Never give up. :) Are the checks leaking at all? Use...

If I were to use all 3, I would not have to run them 4 hours. 4 hours was a figure based on using only one. I would add a storage tank, pressure switch, overpressure release valve, and I suppose a temperature switch too. It's either this or regulated nitrogen, which I have to pay for. They weren't c...

Nicely done. Looking forward to the test too.

What kind of plastic is that? Black nylon?

Poland_spud,

I checked your link, but could not find answers to my questions.

What is the longest you have run your compressor?

How much heat does it build up?

Do you think you could run it 4 hours non stop?

I have 3 of these so I am really interested in your answer.

Thanks.

Are you really sure it's the piston? Those look like water checks to me. Do they have a soft (rubber) sealing face? When I have a pump that won't pump, it's usually the suction check leaking.(discharge checks are always spring loaded) Add sealing faces if there are none. Then try again. With 6:1 com...

Wow, you guys like to sweat don't you!

After crunching numbers for the co-ax I'm building, I came up with a c:b of 0.613:1 (this is the smallest that still gave the performance I am looking for)

With your 7mm barrel and 1" chamber diameter, this works out to roughly 1 7/8" chamber length.

You just have to love copper. Seems as though it works quite well. You wrote that the piston moves 1 inch, you could shorten that. Popular opinion is that the piston should move 1/4 of barrel id.(some do like a little bit more than this) I also did not see any type of seal on the pilot side of your ...

Yeah, I did get that. I forget sometimes that not everyone has access to a lathe. With a lathe it would be easy to do it my way. Adding seals is not really an issue either. ((again- if you have a lathe)access to industrial seal suppliers is also a bonus :D ) Regardless, kudos to you for thinking off...

If you square off your barrel end and piston face sufficiently, you could try tire patches. Available everywhere and even come with the glue (repair kit). :)

Might not be neoprene, but it will work.

My bad.

How about..."Save the expensive colour coded teflon tape for applications which require a colour code." :D

Use yellow for natural gas

Use green for oxygen

Use which ever you want on air, water and apparently nitrogen too. :)

White teflon is fine. I use it to 7000 psi on a regular basis for hydraulic applications. Save the gas stuff for gas apps.
