Re: Basic full-auto pneumatic

So I am attempting to build my first rapid fire gun and I think I have a pretty good design, except for one problem. I am planning to do a classic blow-forward bolt, which requires a section of pipe to fit closely inside another section and also requires o-ring seals. I don't have nada in the way o...

Cartridge based designs are completely different field than this type of launcher. In my opinion, they are a bit less elegant.

Would it be too much trouble to post the pictures of the thing at various stages?

I agree, you should always fire when there is no human or animal at least at an 180 degres zone around you. When i shoot with my friends, i always tell them to stand behind me because then one time, i was shooting in my backard,i loaded my spudgun with a to much light potato, shooted and the potato...

I know this has been posted on Spudfiles (when DR posted here for like a month or so), but I always liked this cannon. It was just so massive. Plus, I sorta liked how the whole thing laid flat, rather that h...

Your C:B ratio looks to be about 1:1. It's going to be kinda weak. I wont tell you if you don't want to ear it. lol! :P I doubt it. I remember someone telling me the ideal ratio for a pneumatic was well below that of an ideal combustion ratio, at least in terms of efficiency. however, pneumatics ar...

This is a flat head screw that will be flush with the surface when it is fully screwed in. A vise will help me no more than the ruler.

Tried it...tip of the chisel is not thick enough. Plus I can't get nearly enough torque from the round handle. I found some drill bits that were 9/32" wide and meant for similarly sized screws (smaller ones unfortunately), so hopefully those will have an effect.

Large Screw Installation

So I bought a few screws...big ones. They are #24 thread size. I am having trouble installing them. I got slotted screws instead of bolts in order to have a flush look, but the slotted screws, while they look nice, are pretty weak. They are easily stripped. To make matters worse, they size of the sl...

With PVC, anything beyond propane or MAPP gas is probably going to destroy your project in the long run; things like gunpowder and TNT will destroy it in the short run.

Indeed, you were correct jrrdw...thanks for the help. While unnecessarily inside of the headstock, I applied some white lithium grease to the gears, which apparently makes the machine run quieter. At full blast on high (approximately 2500 RPM), it isn't too loud at all (a bit quieter than a wet-dry ...

Good news; I solved the problem. After opening up the headstock (took a while), I saw that the high/low changer was not gearing up properly. To make it gear up, I have to spin the chuck a little to get the gears to align. Otherwise, it doesn't work...the handle doesn't go far enough. So a pretty bas...

OK, can someone tell me what connects the motor to the chuck? On my lathe, I see the motor is connected directly to a gear, which is connected (by a belt) to another gear. But I do not see anything that connects that gear to either the leadscrew or the chuck (which are connected by gears). Maybe I a...

Well, I can't find his IM, sorry. I have his cell-phone number but I'm not sure he'd appreciate me giving that out. Well, I hope you get it figured out. Velocity, my friend Michael has that same model lathe. I might be able to find his AIM handle... By the way, nice one! How long ago did your order this? Christmas...and I just opened it up tonight :( ...the problem was, when we bought it, our basement was getting redone. Once it was finally redone,...
