Fair enough, make sure you do post it as soon as it's finished.

Nope, interchangeable barrels are fine, it may change the B:C Ratio, but if you want to launch larger, or smaller things with a sabot, then go for it.

Why is this in website discussion?

Either I didn't explain well (Probably) or I drew a crappy diagram (also probable). I've built two working piston guns, so I understand the principles of pistons. Instead of the pilot creating a pressure difference that allows the piston to get pushed back , the solenoid "pulls" the piston back, ag...

The gap is there because it's ergonomical whilst laying down. Again, the pilot volume is larger thasn I would normally go for, but with the use of a modified blowgun, which I mentioned in the first post, it could vent very quickly indeed, not that it's lacking in power at the moment anyway. I use it...

and it would eliminate piloting completely! Also, it's my (probably flawed) understanding that it would activate really fast!
Can you please elaborate more on this, I don't understand how this is supposed to work?

Yup, I've fired it and it's brilliant, I'll stick up a video and some damage shots before long. The sealing face doesn't seem to snag at all, the fact that it's greased to buggery helps it slip by. Yeah, I do get a face full of air, but I always find it quite refreshing. No, the ball bearings are 3/...

Christmas Present for Max

Well this is my present to myself. Basically the same as the spudgun I made for my mate Nic, but I did change a couple of things. Changes: Piston is lathed from M20 Aluminium Rod and has an o-ring on it. I knew that the 1/2" QEV was overkill so I replaced it with a 1/4" one. I used proper 1/4" fitti...

Well DYI, you've just made me eat my words..
But as far as a beginner project goes, the Sound Barrier is a big goal.

I do admit that it's an interesting concept Rag, but I think that's all it will ever be. Not many people have access (or the wallet) to buy up a capacitor bank or the materials needed for construction. Sam Barros had many investors, including the military to build his Rail Gun and that uses enough e...

You are most certainly not going to break the sound barrier with a ball valve, no matter how large it is.

Edit: As far as I know, you can only do it with Hybrids, and as a beginner project, I wouldn't advise building one.

Logun take Airguns that already exist and slap their name on them. My experience of Logun is a bad one, a couple of years ago, I treated myself to an S-16, the performance wasn't too shabby by any means, but the weight of the thing was incredible. Was impossible to hold it steady whilst aiming at so...

Does sound like a pilot problem, the 1/2" ball valve should do it and as you already mentioned, making the hole larger.

My third gun was a copper piston spudgun, actuated by a 1/2" QEV.
What pressure have you had it up too so far?
And what is your piston made from, my one was a bolt piston..

As clide said:
Put on a check valve, its most likely that when you draw air into the pump on the upstroke that its lowering the pressure slightly inside the pilot volume. A check valve will keep air from escaping whilst pumping.
