3D printed golf ball dart tails (image attached)

Drill hole in golf ball and attach with self tapping screw through the dart tube. Think they will work good? I didn't mess with center of gravity or anything. Could be fairly cheap and easy to install. Might be awesome.

Re: Describe the ultimate potato cannon

I confess that I've not really thought about the details of the valving since I doubt I'd get the funding to build such, burst disks work well, and burst disks are a negligible cost in the Big Picture. The point being that whimsy aside, the gun would almost certainly use burst disks. With the valve...

Re: Describe the ultimate potato cannon

Bore: 24 inch. Barrel length: 60 feet. Break action. Barrel on a carriage system such that the breach can be opened/closed without raising/lowering the CG of the barrel. This means easy movement despite the size. Valved would, of course, be nice, but I've had good luck with burst disks. Propellant:...

Describe the ultimate potato cannon

Describe what you feel would be the ultimate potato cannon. Bore size, pneumatic or combustion, power class, features such as spud cutting and breach loading, ease of use should be very important as well, etc etc. Consider all you have seen and learned from this hobby over the years and use your min...

Re: "In the world of spuds today"

JSR, if you reverse the jaws, how large of a diameter can you turn on your lathe without using a face plate? Of course, I'm thinking of cannon chamber size here, hehe.

Re: "In the world of spuds today"

JSR let me know if you want me to make you some drawings. It would be fun to help you with one of your projects. Not that you need it or anything, but it would still be fun. The main benefit is you can see the assembly before machining it to make sure nothing interferes and everything fits together ...

The website looks great. I love the blueprint looking design on top that follows the mouse cursor.

Re: "In the world of spuds today"

Got some practice with the welder by making a tool for the lathe. I've been needing a tool rest more suited towards the carbide tooling I use so I welded this together. The welds have really bad porosity but I believe that is because I was holding the gun at the wrong angle and I wasn't moving cons...

Re: Saftety of PVC Pipe

I must ask, what is everyone building with these days? Im sure Im not the only guy with PVC My first cannon was a propane combustion made from ABS plastic. That was about 12 years ago I think. Since then, I've used aluminum. I've only made 2 cannons in over 10 years because I used aluminum. It tend...

Re: Saftety of PVC Pipe

I don't know if it's safe or not. All I know is it scares the hell out of me. A year old PVC? It looks yellowed. Has it been exposed to the elements and sunlight? People have been using PVC for pneumatic cannons for a long time, but I wouldn't do it. That's just me though. PVC it too unreliable of a...

Re: Strong boy, (hybrid compressed to muscle)

Another thought I had was to make a break-barrel design like a spring-piston air rifle. You could get a lot of leverage that way. It could be an under-lever design instead of the barrel breaking down. Massive leverage for high mix pressure! Hmm, generally speaking, I wonder if a pellet gun (either l...

Re: Syncing of multiple valves.

Ah, I understand the issue now that you explained it. Even if you managed to sync them up, I wonder if it would require occasional recalibration due to friction changes over time. At first, one valve might open faster, but after some number of shots, perhaps the other valve starts opening faster. Ma...
