How Do Threads Affect How Pipe Handles Pressure?

So I am going to be making a piston hybrid cannon over the summer, and have pretty much finished all of the designing of the cannon. I want the chamber to have an FNPT Sch 40 Cap so that I can easily access the innards of the gun in the case of a failure or maintenance. The problem is that I'm not s...

Re: Spring Airsoft Gun; Take away spring?

Yes, that will work. But you'll loose a fair amount of the energy you put into the system when you compress the gas. Compressing the gas heats it up. Gas gets pretty hot but has low heat capacity compared to the cylinder walls so that energy transfers to the walls of the cylinder and is lost to the...

Spring Airsoft Gun; Take away spring?

So after I acquired my cousin's old & broken Airsoft spring rifle, I actually became more intrigued in the sport. I have never played and probably will never play an official game but it sounds like a fun thing to do with friends. Anyway, I was looking at all these spring guns, as they are both the ...

Re: Combustion chamber below barrel for repeating cannon?

Hi, I'm new to the forum, so if I make any mistakes please tell me. I have built a simple combustion cannon before, but after watching Grant Thompson's YouTube video with the "Sonic blast cannon" I became amazed at the ability to use a sponge fuel cell to get repeated shots. However, I disliked tha...

Re: Old, Broken, & Missing Parts Airsoft Rifle

Hate to say it but it looks to be properly FUBAR. Even if you did fix the broken sear piece you'd still be short an inner barrel and a fore end/outer barrel to house that barrel inside. Typically AEGs and gas guns have some replacement parts available online, but not springers. Free weaver rail and...

Old, Broken, & Missing Parts Airsoft Rifle

I was over at my cousin's earlier today, and while I helped him pack to come over to our farm, and amidst his questions about whether he should bring 2 or 20 pairs of underwear for 6 days, I discovered his broken airsoft gun. http://i.imgur.com/mOdr2ol.jpg http://i.imgur.com/j98vwK6.jpg He gave it t...

Re: BFG #7

Even from the audio, the ringing of the steel plate hurts my ears. And 200 psi per shot, regenerating in less than a second?? And all those wires and hoses and gadgety stuff... I thought hybrids were complicated! Congrats on a successful first fire! Now you just need to make it fully automatic. Bttt...

Re: Short question topic

No matter how little the fan will optimize the performance, I definitely want to make it as efficient as possible! I will use the spark plug method, however I will also modify it so it will pass the spark through a spark strip. Moar sparks! Moar power!! These are features that make a significant di...

Re: Short question topic

I personally would be fine using this pipe for a 10x hybrid, provided burst disk failure pressure was below the rated pressure and the projectile was not too tight or heavy. First, I will make the valve a piston like MrCrowley's Mjilnor cannon rather than a burst diaphragm because it is cleaner, fa...

Re: Short question topic

You've gone a little bit in the deep end going for seamless stainless construction. Galvanized iron is fine... Thank you for pointing that out! And now I am following up with another question... :D So I found a decent supplier , and they list it with pressure ratings, yay! For Sch 40 24" Length 2" ...

Why don't you just cut the bolt that would be interfering with you down to be the same height as the sleeve?

Re: Short question topic

First, what you found are seamless steel pipe nipples , not pipes. Second, it's plain steel, you need to apply anti-corrosion coating on it. According to their price list, you can have it galvanized, for double the price. Keep looking. I know they are nipples, they are actually what I am looking fo...

Re: Short question topic

I am preparing to build a piston hybrid cannon. After a lot of searching, I finally found a suitable material that was pressure rated enough for my uses. Then I went to their website and found the pricing list . OK, I scroll down the pricing list and under the "Standard Seamless" chart I look for th...
