Re: Large commercially available exhaust valves
For personal or "work" related? There are some 4" sprinkler type valves that come up, but nothing had more than 150psi rating. For personal and on a budget...large toolies piston? If you need approvals and have tax dollars to spend, you could drop Emerson a line and ask about piloted relief valves. ...

Re: Air Shotgun Shells?
The Crosman shells have a rim on them. If I were doing this with a cartridge made of tubing, there would be a short recess in the barrel for the cartridge to seat/seal on (brass or aluminum tubing) and another on the bolt face...would not set it up to fully chamber the cartridge....extraction would ...

Re: Air Shotgun Shells?
Shotshell wads are split on the sides, and the roll crimp on the case is what holds everything in. Could put something in there to hold the shot, but it's not going to stand much handling. Would use something more like the Crosman Trapmaster shells...plastic case and a cardboard disc/over wad to hol...

Re: To anodize or not? Worth it?
Just going to throw this out there...you can do anodizing at home too, and it's pretty cheap to do...at least on small parts. I played around with a sodium bisulfate process (pool chemical). http://www.observationsblog.com/sciencetechnologyexperiments/anodizing-and-dying-aluminum-without-battery-aci...

Re: Short question topic
It's the ratio of surface areas that allow the pressure increase. The boosters I've built use a service brake chamber from a big truck as the driving end...that's a diaphragm with 30sqin. @ 100psi input from the compressor to that diaphragm it generates 3000lbs of force. Apply that force to a 1" pis...

Re: Short question topic
Not sure what the actual air consumption for that booster will be, but it will be considerable, and the consumption will increase in relation to the output pressure. It's a large diameter piston pushing on a smaller diameter piston..simple force multiplication. The one you're looking at is most like...

Re: Short question topic
A dozen fills is not much...did you contact the seller about warranty?
With the air compressor and the booster running, using the booster is not what I'd call "quiet" either.
Good luck with it.
Fellow actually starts the thing at 1:40...

Re: Short question topic
Wouldn't need a cooling system, but would need a supply of compressed air. Not a big deal if you already have an adequate shop air compressor. As for replacing the Yong Heng, you could replace the entire top end with new parts for a fraction of the cost of either option you presented. Are you just t...

Re: Short question topic
Anyone have experience with booster pumps? My Yong Heng compressor does not fill passed 1000 psi even after I cleaned it inside out and remade the check valves. I suppose I can live with slower charging rate but do they last? The compressor cost me around 150 back in the day and the booster is 600 ...

Re: preloaded pneumatic cartridge
Fantastic project Jack, and will be very interesting to see how it works with a barrel. Really like that style of triggering the cartridge and simplified filling.

Re: "Offtopic-posts-topic" NSFW
Not too frustrating really, but there is a learning curve and mistakes will be made. IMO it's a good starter machine to learn basics...it doesn't seem to have enough power to actually hurt itself which makes the inevitable crashes far less costly than a more capable machine where things would get be...

Mobility is KEY Jack... Wheels are for the furnace. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dn39x18DJRc Damned feet keep getting in the shot.  Coating the foam with thinned drywall mud. The pre-mixed, non setting stuff made for doing the finishing coat. Don't have a viscosity gauge, but it...

Re: "Offtopic-posts-topic" NSFW
Been using lost foam to produce some parts for an upcoming air rifle build and finding it to be a very interesting and potentially useful process....it's also easy beyond reason to produce parts that require little further machining. Well worth digging into. :D https://i.imgur.com/Eh2hJTkm.jpg https...
