Re: My AC compressor
The deadband is a minimum (supposedly) 30psi. With some wee tweaks, we got it down to 15. You can make it much much larger if you want

Re: My AC compressor
I'm not sure if you folks know, but air compressor switches are far more versatile than you'd think. Recently I was working with a bore pump that was switched with an air compressor pressure switch. Checked out the datasheet on the model (appeared identical to all others I've seen, including the spr...

Re: Smoking fridge compressor
Point 2 answers question 1! Compressors need oil, otherwise they tend to smoke!
How much oil, who knows bar the manufacturer. I'd get another compressor

Re: Anyone ever scatter human ashes via spud gun?
Knowing your background, how about casting them within a hollow plaster canister. Have the canister weighted to tumble almost immediately, plaster being plaster and all, it should disintegrate. Or, soup can with a very draggy fabric tail. It should fly straight, as it passes the apex of its trajecto...

Re: Another New Member Introduction and Question
Good to see new members building hybrids! Another factor is simply the amount of air you need. Do you want to cart a beefy generator, air compressor or spend all day pumping, or build a hybrid with significantly less demanding air requirements and the potential to exceed the speed of sound very easi...

Re: Short question topic
If you research underhammer rifles, you'll see a number of various caplock rifles, all with a suitable action for your uses. Weaponeer is a good starting place for gunsmithing forums. The actual mechanism is one of the simplest and easiest to get right. As the cap itself would be on the side of the ...

Re: Short question topic
Likely not off limits as it's been attempted before. The question I have is why? Electrical ignition is far simpler, requires no precise alignment of cartridges (I take it from your previous thread that it's an application) and electrical ignition usually seals quite well. But yes, it'll work. If I ...

Re: Short question topic
It is still a spud gun though technically
And a side note on accuracy, conventional black powder only reaches 20,000 or so, with such a low friction I'd honestly be surprised if it reaches anywhere near that.
But yes, it's against SF rules

Now now Jack, it's a BSA Sportsman HV with Gamo on the side. I've read some excellent reviews in regards to accuracy. Not to mention I don't have the $3k for a really nice FX. Besides would you go romping through the bush with an FX Monsoon? :-P And yes, it's .22, I personally wouldn't consider anyt...

Re: "Offtopic-posts-topic" NSFW
So, I'm buying a PCP. Gamo Dynamax. I know it's a Gamo but they're made by BSA which is surely not a bad thing. The price is definitely right, so I'm pretty set on it. Question time seeing as I've only used two before (and both FXs, so I'm spoiled). That said the shot to shot variation is superb for...

Re: "In the world of spuds today"
Hybrid of course. It was intended to be shoulder fired, but the barrel is a bit on the heavy side, being SCH40. I need some of MrCs tuning fork tubing.

Re: How Do Threads Affect How Pipe Handles Pressure?
Don't forget shock loading though, gradual continuous pressure isn't as harsh as fast peaking pressure, especially when you're working near the limits of your materials. Stress risers, if you cut a square part out of paper then try to tear it, you'll see it'll tear right where the two pieces meet. C...

Re: Lack of qev's in Australia
Well I've had one of the 3/8" output valves up to 650psi, so I daresay it'll work reasonably well.... More than enough flow for your uses too
