I think there is a place for air/water rockets on the forum, after all it is still launching a projectile through the air using a compressed gas

There is not much to do to change the spread other than adjusting the length of the barrel which dose not have a huge effect on the spread anyway. Instead of putting a smaller barrel in, I'd use a sabot or wad. If it fits, grab some empty shotshells. More rounds per shot, and a larger surface area for the air to force against.
