I can't be certain as of this point. But it has no odor, color, smell, residue or taste (best if you not know how I figured that out) so I'm going to assume water. It came from a hydrodynamics lab. So it's a reasonable assumption.

I'd personally go for an air piston. Simialar to JSR's design but have the egg travel down the tube during impact. Friction along the sidewalls will slow it down over a longer period of time. Depending on the seal on the egg, I may add a soft foam material similar to the density of egg crate (haha) ...

Oh I didn't know someone was replying to my post. Sorry for the Delay. It is from a Pumpkin Chunkin contest in Greyledge farms in CT. The ammo is obviously pumpkins. It takes place once every year in October. The photo is indeed from a DSLR. It came from a Canon Digital Rebel XSi on continuous drive...

Not all cannons have to be mobile either.

Used neon sign transformers. They are usually free or really cheap. This is because as NST's age, they become very unreliable. There is no use fixing them because it is easier to replace them

Well I'm not sure how big you want the images for each merit. But I was thinking I could make them. I had small 50x50 px images in mind.

the macro button, THE MACRO BUTTON!! For those unfamiliar with what macro does, it allows in focus shots of objects very close to the lens. You shouldn't zoom at all while taking macro shots either. The macro icon looks like this: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/11/96990454_23d4e93860_m.jpg Otherwise...

If you don't mind I think we should make clever names for each merit. Spudhead: Built and fired a spudgun Hairspray Queen: Built and fired a combustion spudgun Air Head: Built and fired a pneumatic spudgun The Good: Built and fired a 2x+ mix hybrid The Bad: Built and fired a 10x+ mix hybrid The Ugly...

I personally love the idea. It's like my new found obsession with the X-box 360 game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II". In the game you get merit badges for doing certian things like calling in tactical nuclear strikes or dropping air drops on peoples' heads... Anyways, I have the motivation to try ...

Yes that is what I meant. I use a microwave oven 1000uF cap.

Have you ever seen an ignition coil firing from a wall outlet. 120Hz cycle rate. I think it's more than sufficient. However it is obviously not very mobile. I can reccomend a battery fit solution, but it costs $400+ Another solution is a battery inverter with an AC ignition coil circuit. All ...

I thought the idea of the thread was to think of ways to get HV sparks without using batteries or piezoelectric ignitors. If batteries are involved I'd reccomend a Marx generator.
